Ivy is a Sulcata Tortoise
Some fun facts-
🐢 They’re the third-largest tortoise species in the world, behind the Galápagos and Aldabra giant tortoises. Large males can weigh 150–250+ pounds, with exceptional individuals exceeding 300 pounds.
* 🌍 They come from the southern edge of the Sahara Desert in Africa, where they survive in extremely hot, dry conditions.
* ⛏️ They are amazing diggers. A sulcata can dig burrows 10–30 feet long and several feet deep to escape the desert heat. These burrows stay much cooler than the surface.
* ⏳ They can live 70–100 years or more, so many owners include them in their estate planning.
* 🌱 They’re strict herbivores. Their ideal diet is mostly grasses, hay, weeds, and leafy plants. Too much fruit or high-protein food can cause health problems and shell deformities.
* 🏃 Despite their size, they can move surprisingly fast—up to about 3–5 mph for short bursts.
