Visual Designer on GuardBox is being used more and more every day haha! It's where you can get a head start on your flag ideas! You can import any photo or image you want and build a silk around it. AND there's a community design gallery built right into the app where other designers have shared their flags, which you can browse, upvote, and import straight into your own workspace as a starting point! Fully exportable!

(The community design gallery is completely opt-in based/optional and you can select which designs you share, if any!)

The community Rehearsal Planner template library on GuardBox keeps growing and there are some real gems in there! Instructors have been publishing their favorite rehearsal blocks and common structures they use, so you can browse, upvote, and import any of them directly into your own Rehearsal Planner as a starting point.

If you run a rehearsal that works really well, consider publishing it!
You can help other programs and instructors too!

Instructors, the more you can invoke that passion yourself and share it, the more your members are going to want to give that same energy back!

Find videos that inspire (or inspired) you, share your own stuff, and just show them that YOU are also putting in the work, even if it's NOT physically doing the skills!

Cross Toss tip! A huge issue I see with Cross Tosses is people push down only to the ribcage and then stop their right hand before it follows through! You have to keep crossing as much as you possibly can, otherwise it turns into a MoneyHand/J toss, which is a completely different mechanic.

Both hands have to be working in opposition (quite literally like a steering wheel at first) and both have to be giving energy into the flag to make it happen!

There are a few main ways to "show fold" your silk before you set it! The most standardized method is halving the flag four or five times depending on the flags tail length, and this is quick... but the silk tends to slip out when you strip it on your way to set when carrying multiple pieces of equipment! This triangle fold fixes that.

You create the triangle fold by halving it, then taking the top corner to the tab, then repeating a few times! This allows the silk to bunch to the tab and then lock against your arm in cradle so nothing falls out when you're setting equipment!

End of the school year is the best time to count and log the EQ you have before you start ordering for next season, and the Inventory Center on GuardBox handles all of this!

You can run up to 10 separate inventories under one account (useful if you teach multiple programs or schools), and each inventory can link to a specific team profile so equipment is tied to the right group!

If you also use Staff Groups, the Guard Room tab syncs with your Inventory Center in both directions, so performers see what's available (if you want, it’s fully optional) when they check out equipment without you manually updating two lists!!

Individual practice can definitely feel overwhelming when you don't know where to start! Giving yourself a weekly schedule can help fix that!

Map out your free days that you want to devote to your craft, then split each session into roughly three chunks: technique, show material, and discovery (things you pulled from YouTube, Instagram, or clips from drum corps and winter guard).

That discovery block is the piece that keeps your internal motivation alive, because it reminds you there's a bigger world to grow into! Set a monthly goal tied to what's coming, like focusing on technique exercises in April to hone in your skills after a season, new tosses in May to get geared for summer, etc.

In your planning, do NOT forget to stretch and make sure you truly spend a decent amount of time on technique and the base of your spinning.

If you're running rehearsals already, Rehearsal Planner on GuardBox has an Active Mode that runs your entire plan LIVE during the day! 🏳️

You build your schedule in block form (warmup, stretching, basics, rifle technique, lunch, drill focus, cleaning focus, etc.), and when rehearsal starts you flip to Active Mode! The current block is on screen with a countdown to the next one, and everyone on your staff can sync up and see the same thing. When the block ends, the next one pulls up automatically!

30+ starter templates are built in, and the whole plan exports as a PDF, calendar invite, or QR code for those that don't use the app! Live weather for your location is also baked in (and optional) so you know the status of your outdoor rehearsals as well!

Rehearsal planner is completely free and available to all users!

When you're learning standard hilt tosses on sabre, you want to make sure it's traveling up the left side of your body!

The hilt naturally wants to track inward during your release due to the weight displacement of the sabre and so there has to be a focus put on WHERE you let go at! This slight track becomes a wayyy bigger problem as toss height increases, since the natural weight of the hilt will create larger and larger arcs as you move up through 7's...

Check the "hilt path" as early as possible in your training so you're correcting this VERY NATURAL habit before it gets locked into your technique! 🧠
