Long before it was an Elvis Presley hit, it was the song that united a divided nation. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

You probably know the melody of "Love Me Tender," but during the Civil War, soldiers on both sides knew it as "Aura Lea." The tune was so popular that both the Union and the Confederacy claimed it as their own! It was one of the few things both sides could agree on: it was a beautiful piece of music.

The Danville Barbershop Chorus is bringing this Civil War classic back to the stage in stunning four-part harmony!

More than just a catchy tune, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" was a massive morale booster during WWII, making LaVerne, Maxene, and Patty wartime icons. They sold over 90 million records, earned 15 gold records, and had 46 billboard top ten hits, surpassing Elvis and the Beatles.

Come hear the swing that defined a generation!

In 1983, Secretary of the Interior James Watt announced The Beach Boys would not be allowed to perform on the Washington Mall on July Fourth as he believed "hard rock" bands attracted "the wrong element". President and First Lady Reagan, who were fans of the band overrode his decision and the band played near the Washington Monument.

Catch your favorite Beach Boy tunes as the Danville Barbershop Chorus sings β€œThe Music of America” on Saturday May 2 at 3pm at the Fischer Theatre.

"Yankee Doodle" was written by a British soldier to mock American colonists. However, during the Revolutionary War, American troops reclaimed the song, transforming it into a defiant anthem of patriotism. It was even played to taunt the British as they surrendered at Yorktown.

Come hear this and other songs that shaped our nation.
