Last weekend we had the pleasure of hosting this young man and his mother at Libelle’s Hope. He was given the choice of what he wanted to do for his tenth birthday and he chose to stay at our VRBO. Sunday night he explored how to create a bald eagle head from foam, carving it meticulously with hot wire cutters and rasps.
Monday we kayaked the Loup. We were all amazed to see an eagle’s eyrie with two juveniles looking down at us and at the base of the tree, the adult standing on the bank. A photo would have been nice, but instead of fumbling with the camera, we drifted silently by, only about 10 yards from where he stood. We expected him to take flight, but instead he slowly hopped backwards into the woods. I am still in awe.
