Just recently had an appendectomy so I'm out of the studio for a bit: time for a bit of reflection... I've been reading Finding the Mother Tree by Dr. Suzzane Simard. Great read if you are a wood worker interested in more than just the end product off the lathe. We recently had significant damage to cherished Ash and Hackberry trees. One might say,"no particular loss" But these are trees that have grown with us since we have lived here. They have sheltered and attracted birds to our feeders and signal the coming and passing of seasons. So, yes, I feel the loss. Walking through the yard, there are old dead branches down as well and these are seasoned ready to turn into something small to commemorate the tree. Most might haul it off to the tree dump or burn pile. I say, make a desk pen and base for someone to use. (Other set is of Mulberry and Oak combined in both base and pen.)
