Sometimes, just when I’m having a difficult day or feeling a little low, a single photograph can completely change my mood.

This was one of those moments.

Seeing these three beautiful women standing beside my artwork at the Fortune Cookie Project exhibition at Still River Edition was such an unexpected and heartfelt surprise. Their kindness, support, and the simple gesture of sending me this photo reminded me why art is so much more than what hangs on a wall; it’s about the connections it creates and the people it brings into our lives.

To these wonderful and special people , thank you for making my day brighter than you know. Your thoughtfulness means the world to me. ❤️

It was an unforgettable evening filled with inspiring conversations, extraordinary talent, and remarkable artwork. I’m grateful to have been part of such a vibrant exhibition and to share this special evening with Vini, Gallery Director at Galleria Azur, and so many gifted artists.

A heartfelt thank you to Penelope Peralta for these stunning photographs, and to Vini and the entire Galleria Azur team for creating such a beautiful opening and an inspiring exhibition. Grateful for a beautiful opening night at the DreamTimes exhibition at Galleria Azur in New York.

Thank you to everyone who came…friends, family,, curators, collectors, and art lovers. Your love and support made the evening truly special.

I’m honored to exhibit alongside such inspiring artists. A special thank you to Galleria Azur and Vinni for putting together such a beautiful opening. And to my wonderful sons and my family near and far, thank you for your endless love, encouragement, and support.

I’m delighted to be part of DREAMTIMES, a group exhibition bringing together an incredible group of artists whose works explore memory, dreams, imagination, and the spaces between past and present.

The exhibition invites viewers into a world where time becomes fluid and art serves as a bridge between personal mythology, collective experience, and alternative ways of seeing. Rather than offering fixed meanings, DREAMTIMES encourages us to slow down, reflect, and embrace the transformative power of imagination.

I’m grateful to be exhibiting alongside such talented artists, and I’d love for you to join us at the opening reception.

THE FORTUNE COOKIE PROJECT

Photographer and educator Catherine Vanaria had a deceptively simple idea: to ask artists to respond to a prompt created by opening a fortune cookie.

For years, she collected fortunes after each Chinese takeout meal, then in 2025, when she retired from being a Professor of Art at WCSU, she found them as she was cleaning out her office. She brought them back to her studio, thinking she might use them as prompts for her own artwork.

“It occurred to me that this might be an interesting project if I included others to do the same, so in November the process of inviting friends, colleagues and artists began. Each person who agreed was given a prepackaged fortune cookie with the following instructions:

Today, you have received your fortune cookie which includes a message inside. This message is your sole prompt. I am asking you to create a new piece of art that reinterprets, challenges, or literalizes the meaning of your fortune. The choice of medium is completely up to you.”
