Featured in this website are a selection of fine art prints and lifestyle products based on Steve Sandborg’s original acrylic paintings of tropical fish. Steve is passionate about the beauty in the world, and from a very young age was always trying to capture it through drawing, painti

ng or building things. He is inspired by landscapes, colors, shapes, the human form, and in particular, nature’s endless variety of fish life that he has experienced through while Scuba diving. Over the years, he has traveled both professionally (during 40+ years in marketing and real estate development) and for personal enjoyment. His Scuba Diving travel has been particularly inspirational as it has taken him to some of the most spectacular coastal and island locations throughout the world. Most of his work is done in the studio with photo references from images captured while diving and exploring the outdoors. In recent years, Steve has also moved into plein air painting given the influence of the style in his and surrounding communities in Southern California.

Everyone seems to be painting in gouache! So these are my second and third experiences with this medium while in Central California this past week. A good start but lots to learn.

Another great SOCALPAPA paint out yesterday on Cliff Drive overlooking downtown Laguna Beach. This is my onsite block out and finished 12x16 piece featuring the Hotel Laguna. I’ll be putting it up at Studio 7 Gallery this week!

Still wet but I’ll have this new piece up tomorrow at First Thursday Art Walk at Studio 7 Gallery in Laguna Beach (384 N Coast Hwy) 6-9pm. This is 12x24 and I call it “Summertime in the Harbor.”

Had a great couple of weeks with 6 of my paintings finding new homes through Studio 7 Gallery and a very successful SOCALPAPA Back Bay Show! Thanks again to my new and existing collectors for your support. I better get back to the easel!

This weekend over 45 artists will be showing some amazing work at the SOCALPAPA Back Bay Show and Sale. Saturday and Sunday (10am-4pm) at the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center (2301 University Drive, Newport Beach). I’ll have some new piece to share. One of my outdoor sessions last week. This was at Caspers Wilderness Park. The light was amazing and constantly changing with the dramatic cloud cover. 12x16 oil.

Tomorrow is the opening reception of a plein air art show featuring the works of over 20 SOCALPAPA artists that painted in the West Floral Park Open Garden Day a few weeks ago.
