Frequently Asked Questions About our Billy Awards:
1. Who makes the nominations for the awards? Our directors make the nominations for their shows. Directors are made to select one person per category, and they hate that! Directors regularly say that picking nominees is hard because they think all their cast members are great. They groan and moan a lot over this!
2. Who votes for the Billy Awards? The members of DLT vote. One vote for each member who is current with membership for the season. Didn't get to vote this year? Join us now for next season; your membership will support the 2026-2027 season.
3. If I give a lot of money, can I vote many times? No, one vote per member! But don't let that stop you from giving generously.
4. Why are they called the Billy Awards? The awards are named in honor of a very special founder of DLT-Bill Davies ( of Bill and Emily Davies). There’s a story behind it…come to the awards we tell it every year!
5. Who counts the ballots? We have a very special volunteer who is our own PriceWaterhouseCooper (you know, the ones who handle the Oscars). Our volunteer is NOT affiliated with the productions in any way, not acting, directing, or backstage, so it's completely non-partisan, non-denominational, non-everything.
6. When will we know the winners? It's a secret until the awards (well, the trophy company knows as they are making the awards, but they don't tell!). This year, the Billy Awards are held on August 7th, immediately following the Annual Meeting. Details are posted on our social media and website. Please make plans to attend.
