In How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning, Iván Argote challenges the colonial structures built into our cities—

“I think we should, and we deserve, and we need to create new symbols in our city and create new ways to talk about their memory... And celebrate people who are not celebrated in the city.”

We were honored to celebrate the opening of Iván Argote’s “How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning”.

Last weekend’s celebration brought together the artists, supporters, and neighbors who shape this museum, and gave the exhibition a warm welcome. Our gratitude to everyone who attended.

In “How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning”, Iván Argote brings together video, sculpture, and bas-relief to reconsider how public monuments shape collective memory, political power, and our understanding of history. Through humor, imagination, and playful interventions, his work challenges the supposed permanence of these structures and invites viewers to envision new possibilities for the stories they represent.

“How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning” is on view at Dallas Contemporary now through January 31st.

What does it mean to move a monument? And why a Tuesday morning?

In this interview, artist Iván Argote shares the inspiration behind the title of his newest exhibition, How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning, offering a glimpse into the ideas, questions, and perspectives that shape his work.

Through sculpture, moving images, and the reimagining of public monuments, Argote invites us to reconsider the histories we inherit, the spaces we share, and the stories we choose to remember.

A monument in motion, bringing communities together through art, history, and shared stories.

On September 19, DIGNIDAD, by Iván Argote in collaboration with Floating Museum and curator Carla Acevedo-Yates, made its way through Dallas for a day of community gatherings, conversations, film, and music.

Beginning at Dallas Contemporary, the moving sculpture traveled to the Latino Cultural Center, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Texas Theatre, and Top Ten Records, connecting communities across the city and creating space to reflect on identity, resilience, and the histories that shape us.

We’re honored to have been part of DIGNIDAD’s journey through Dallas and invite you to experience more of Iván Argote’s work in How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning, where DIGNIDAD now greets visitors right outside our doors.

Still reminiscing about a night to remember.

Candela brought our community together for an unforgettable evening celebrating contemporary art, creativity, and the power of coming together to make an impact. From the energy of the live auction to the incredible performances, thoughtful details, and moments shared throughout the evening, every part of the night reflected the generosity and spirit of our Dallas Contemporary community.

Thanks to everyone who joined us, supported our mission, and helped make this year’s gala so meaningful. Together, we raised a record-breaking $1.7 million to support our exhibitions, educational initiatives, and free public programming.

A few more moments from an extraordinary evening.

A night that made an impact.

This past Saturday, our community came together for Candela, Dallas Contemporary’s annual gala, raising a record-breaking $1.7 million in support of the museum and its mission to bring groundbreaking contemporary art to Dallas, free and open to all.

Inspired by the global influence of Latin American art and culture, the evening brought together artists, collectors, and supporters for a celebration of creativity, generosity, and community. We were honored to recognize Iván Argote as our 2026 Honorary Artist and celebrate the opening of his exhibition, How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning.

A heartfelt thank-you to our Gala co-chairs, Catalina Gonzalez Jorba, Ramiro G., and Peter Augustus Owen, along with the artists and galleries who generously contributed to the auctions, our sponsors and partners, and everyone who made this extraordinary evening possible.

From the excitement of the live auction led by renowned auctioneer Simon de Pury, to an unforgettable performance by Abraham Alexander and a lively after-party with Delilah Los Angeles and The h.wood Group, the celebration was a reflection of the creativity, energy, and generosity that make this community so special.

We’re also deeply grateful to Elisabeth Landry, our event planner; CONCEPTO STUDIO, our floral designer; and Art 2 Catering OFFICIAL SITE for helping bring the evening to life through thoughtful design, beautiful florals, and an exceptional culinary experience.

Every bid, gift, and contribution helps support our exhibitions, educational initiatives, and free public programming. Thank you for helping us keep contemporary art accessible to all.
