Pride in NYC with my not so little anymore 1st baby and the Arttitude fam.

We had a pop-up art show and poetry reading at the Stonewall National Monument and then headed over to have a couple of drinks at Stonewall. Our poets also read poetry there.

I'm not going to lie, I couldn't contain the tears. Living genuinely is a beautiful thing.

On why I picked She's Homeless by Crystal Waters as the intro song for our performance:

It was the 90's in a club in Austin. Crystal Waters was performing. I was there with my boyfriend and his best friend, Travis. The boyfriend was gone a few months later - he wasn't very nice. Travis, however, was a beautiful human and became one of my closest friends.

50's me is stepping back into the joy and freedom I felt that night. So why not use it to conjure new beginnings?

Thank you for sharing the picture! It's my favorite from the night.

Writing gave me my voice back. My body hasn't caught up.

It still feels discombobulated and stiff; like it can't figure out which way is left and right or up and down or how to release.

Last night's performances called spirit back to me and helped my body felt whole again, even if for a little while.

The last few years have been really rough because they've been years of growth and change. The last few years have also been years of tremendous beauty because of that same growth and change.

I'll share an older poem tonight at Arttitude's OutLoud. It's titled Love Bloomed and was shared at Dallas is Lit and Teatro Campesino's poetry festival last year. It'll be prefaced by a new monologue that is pretty honest and raw.

I hope you come celebrate with me and all the amazing poets and performers that will be on stage tonight. The link for free tickets is in the comments. If you can't log in to Eventbrite, just come on down by 7 pm. You can get your ticket at the door.
