MexMama Ofelia is a queer grassroots community advocate, cultural promotora, and writer/poet from Oak Cliff.

Ofelia's a sushi and pozole loving Xicana who sounds proper on paper but always enjoys a good mitote. Ofelia has worked for over 19 years in the community with children and families and has been writing her entire life. Her poetry, short stories and essays focus on the subtleties of life and celebrate the rituals that keep us grounded and connected.

What a week!

Helped build and support community. Get to work with littles again. Heard beautiful poetry and music that unlocks something hidden deep inside. Enjoyed great food and drinks. Made time for self-care with my besties and babies. Basically got to hang out with cool folks.

Life is bringing me the gente I need. So here's to the chingonx women and men who show me life can be lived differently. I'm grateful to each of you!

Interesting how a song can be attached to contradicting memories. Por un lado it speaks to what I felt would be my forever truth. Por el otro it's a reminder of the indifference and lack of reciprocity that was a constant in my marriage.

I'll let both memories fade and continue to love this song because it's beautiful. I'll also let it be a reminder that reciprocity in my relationships is a requirement since poets don't know how to love half-assed.
