“My life’s journey has been an odyssey through time and space, filled with vivid moments, abundant with color, dazzling with sights, and vibrant with euphonic sounds. These moments collectively create my story, not only of who I was but also of who I was to become - an artist living in New York City, where I have been fortunate to reach a global audience with my art and philosophy.”

Peter Max (1937-2026) was a German-American artist, notably significant for his contribution to the psychedelic and pop art movements of the 60’s with his uniquely colorful artworks. Heavily inspired by astronomy and the cosmos, Max embraced his love of the colors around him. The outspoken political activist and environmentalist emphasized his love for the world through valuing creativity and freedom that we can appreciate during difficult times.

We are saddened to hear about the iconic figure’s passing, September 14th, 2026. The Dallas College Galleries Permanent Collection is proud and honored to be home to one of Max’s works, “Being Without Need”, currently on display at El Centro Campus.

About the show:
“My work explores transformation, materiality, and transcendence through painting and mixed media. Working intuitively with unstretched canvas, wood panels, acrylic and latex paint, charcoal, and found materials, I approach art-making as an encounter between myself, the materials, and the divine.”

About the show:
“As artists, we are  constantly bombarded by a dual reality: the loud, accelerating world of popular culture,  technology, and media, and the quiet, immovable textures of nature, history, and personal memory. This exhibition brings together [thirteen] distinct, multi-media voices to explore how  we navigate these parallel planes. Rather than forcing a singular, uniform style, the collection  functions as a dynamic counterpoint—a series of distinct thresholds where physical objects  become containers for internal narratives.”

Congratulations to all our Visual Arts winners of the Fordham Berding Jones Awards for 2026! These students have been nominated by various faculty for their talents and dedication to the arts. Since 1977, this award has provided scholarship money to over 600 students at Dallas College. Join us to celebrate them tonight, September 17 from 4pm-6pm at Lawyer’s Title- Dallas. Can’t make the reception? The show will be on display from September 14-November 25.

Join us TODAY, Wednesday, September 16 from 12pm-2pm for the reception of Jay Chung’s Jay Chung “Pending”, on view at Brookhaven’s Forum Gallery! Listen about Jay Chung’s creative process, ask the artist questions in a live Q&A, and enjoy good food and conversation with other creatives.

About the artist:
Jay Chung’s paintings work between figuration and dissolution. Figures rise to the surface of thickly layered oil on canvas, blur back into the ground, and hold their form at the edge of disappearance. The boundary between body and environment does not resolve. It stays open, under pressure, as a condition rather than a subject.

Chung has developed his practice through residencies and exhibitions internationally, including a recent residency in Berlin. An encounter with the remains of the Berlin Wall brought into focus something central to his work: that boundaries do not disappear. They diffuse, becoming the atmosphere we inhabit.

Join us TOMORROW, Tuesday, September 15 from 12pm-2pm for the reception of Martin Molina’s “Close Only Counts...”, on view at the Eastfield’s 219 Gallery! Take a moment to meet the artist, ask questions, and enjoy the company of other creatives.

From the Artist:
“In this series, I challenged myself to reinterpret the visual and cultural associations of the original game, creating a collection of woodblock prints with subtly coded imagery. Each of the 54 cards serves as a foundation for a unique part, all of which are represented in this exhibition....In addition to Lotería, this body of work is also influenced by the history and cultural significance of October. The eerie atmosphere of the month, along with its connections to horror films and the Halloween holiday, inspired a selection of pieces that explore themes of fear, folklore, and the macabre.“
