✨ Printmaking changed everything. ✨

Long before developing the layered mixed media style many know today, Melinda Whitten fell in love with the world of printmaking.

Studying techniques such as lithography, intaglio, silkscreen, and relief printing taught her to think differently about mark-making, texture, composition, and storytelling. The process required patience, experimentation, and a willingness to embrace surprises—qualities that continue to influence her artwork today.

Even though her work has evolved across mediums, the lessons learned through printmaking remain at the heart of her creative practice. You can still see those influences in her love of layers, texture, intricate details, and the balance between planning and discovery.

Every artist has a moment, medium, or experience that shapes their path. For Melinda, printmaking was one of the foundations that helped guide her artistic journey.

✨ Art has a way of bringing people together. ✨

One of my favorite moments at an art show is watching people connect through the artwork.

There is something special about seeing someone discover a piece for the first time, share a memory it sparks, laugh with a friend, or find meaning in an unexpected place. Those moments of joy, curiosity, and connection are what make exhibiting art so rewarding.

Art creates conversations. It builds community. It gives us a reason to slow down, share stories, and see the world through someone else's eyes.

The energy, laughter, and conversations throughout the show were every bit as meaningful as the artwork itself.

✨ Still smiling about the Nostalgia Art Show! ✨

I had such a great time participating in the Nostalgia Art Show with my piece, The Bards, Jiffy Pop, and Console Moon! 📺🍿💿

This piece was such a fun walk down memory lane, bringing together so many of the things that instantly take me back—He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a Rubik’s Cube, Pop Rocks, Jiffy Pop, marbles, a View-Master, vintage TV memories, and more. So many childhood memories packed into one piece!

Of course, I had to get into the nostalgic spirit for the show too—Dallas Cowboys jersey, fun kicks and all! 🏈👟

A huge thank you to the Nostalgia Art Show for bringing together so many talented artists and giving us a chance to share the memories that inspire our work. ❤️

✨ Where the Light Gathers ✨

One of the greatest joys of this exhibition has been sharing these works with friends, supporters, and fellow art lovers.

Where the Light Gathers brought together a collection of paintings inspired by the beauty found in everyday moments—quiet landscapes, vibrant color, meaningful places, and the light that connects us all.

I am incredibly grateful to everyone who visited the show, shared encouragement, purchased artwork, and supported this creative journey.

✨ The best moments are often the unplanned ones. ✨

One of my favorite things about exhibiting artwork is watching the conversations unfold around it. Art has a wonderful way of bringing people together—sparking stories, laughter, memories, and unexpected connections.

This candid moment from Where the Light Gathers reminds me that while creating art is often a solitary process, sharing it is anything but. The friendships, conversations, and community that grow from these experiences are just as meaningful as the artwork itself.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared a story, laughed with us, and helped make this exhibition such a special experience.

✨ A Love Letter to Downtown McKinney ✨

This painting captures one of my favorite views of the historic McKinney Square—glowing lights overhead, reflections on the street, and the charm that makes downtown such a special place to gather, connect, and create memories.

As an artist, I'm constantly inspired by the beauty of everyday moments, and the Square offers endless inspiration through its architecture, energy, and sense of community.

It was such a joy to share this piece as part of Where the Light Gathers and to talk about the stories and places that influence my work.
