Some of our calls are literally off the beaten path.
A trail cyclist took a nasty spill and injured his ankle deep in an area inaccessible to trucks and standard rescue vehicles. Firefighters were able to locate the cyclist quickly and hiked down about 120 ft down to his location, safely secured him into a stretcher, and carried the patient up to the waiting rescue unit.

Great job, y’all!

Congratulations to our members who responded to this call where they were able to execute a high-angle rescue with technical expertise and get the patient to safety. The responding crews were awarded a well deserved Unit Citation for their outstanding performance and operational excellence.

This patient was experiencing a heat-related emergency and removal of the patient through traditional means was impossible. Crews used the Heavy Rescue apparatus as an artificial high point, rigged a rope system, put the patient in a stokes basket and were able to lift the patient to safety while maintaining continuous medical monitoring.

Incredible work!! 👏👏👏👏

Today Dallas Fire-Rescue was a given a special recognition for the work our firefighters do everyday.

Twenty-five years ago, we watched as hundreds of first responders ran toward danger without hesitation, sacrificing their lives to save others. September 11, 2001 was a defining moment in our history, marked by immense loss, profound heartbreak, and unimaginable bravery. 2,977 people lost their lives that day, including 72 law enforcement officers, and 343 firefighters.

Today we honor the promise we made to our fallen heroes that day – that we would “Never forget.” Every time we put on our uniform we honor the lives of those lost. We keep their memory alive with every call we make, every fire extinguished, and every life saved.

Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics, an EMS supervisor, and DISD Officer Armando Gonzalez were honored at Dallas City Council today for exceptional life-saving actions that made all the difference in a critical moment.

When DISD Officer Justin Jones was shot, Officer Gonzalez acted with poise and speed, applying a tourniquet that prevented him from bleeding out. Upon arrival, DFR paramedics recognized the immediate need for critical intervention and quickly requested an EMS supervisor to respond with blood. Thanks to that coordination, 2 pints of blood were transfused on-scene, stabilizing Officer Jones enough to survive the operating room.

We are deeply grateful for the courage, quick thinking, and dedication of these first responders and officers who put their training into action to save a life.

Huge shoutout to the crew at Fire Station 23 for their incredible work saving a man’s life after he suffered a gunshot wound. When seconds counted, these medics didn’t hesitate: they quickly administered a tourniquet and transfused 2 pints of blood to keep him alive.

Even after he went into cardiac arrest, the crew kept fighting, stabilizing him enough to make the critical transport to the hospital. Thanks to their fast action and seamless transfer of care, the patient went straight into the OR and—against the odds—was able to walk out of the hospital completely neurologically intact.
Great job, y’all!!

Congratulations to FRO Jonathan Kirby and Probationary FRO Jared Newman for being awarded the Fireground Excellence Award for saving the lives of 4 civilians during a fire at multi-story apartment building under extremely dangerous conditions.

Upon arrival Kirby and Newman deployed ground ladders to access a second story balcony where a civilian was trapped. Firefighters were able to bring the man to safety.

Kirby and Newman then repositioned their ladder to assist occupants who were attempting to escape a third-story window. Kirby and Newman quickly secured and safely lowered a victim who was trying to escape hanging by a bedsheet. Facing rapidly deteriorating conditions, both members then acted quickly to rescue 2 additional victims from the third story window.

*Note* Newman was still a probationary officer when this took place!

A Unit Citation was awarded to EN52, EN29, EN28, TR37, TR57, BC04, BC10, RE28 for their coordinated actions and exceptional work in preventing the loss of life under extreme fire conditions.
