Hey, Oral Fixation storytellers and fans! I am a local actor/comic who wants to encourage people to spread their wings and step outside their comfort zone. To start the new year off right and support other artists, I put together Open Mic Spotlight. The first was so successful that we have added a second opportunity for creative folks of all types to come together. By popular demand we have added a second opportunity for you to show us what ya got! Our Feb. 8 OPEN MIC SPOTLIGHT filled up quickly with acts, so we've added another night for you to step up and try something outside your norm. We're accepting performers now for our Feb. 14 show. 18 spots are available. OPEN MIC SPOTLIGHT is about stepping outside your comfort zone...musical theater peeps might try jazz, rock, folk or something other than your go-to pieces. Stand-up folks, try a sketch or song or dance, scene from a play, storytelling or spoken word. Or, if you've got a new idea, monologue or something you've been wanted to test, that's great...we just want to allow you to spread your wings since there are already some great opportunities to perform your polished and practiced pieces 'round these parts. Guest performers of all genres are encouraged to step outside the box and onto the stage as we put a new twist on an old art form. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, you can riff on the theme, be it romance or lack thereof! A pianist will be available for accompaniment. Each spot will be no more than 5 minutes...we want to keep things varied, movin' and groovin'. Grab a friend and get innovative, or just come and see what transpires. We encourage performers to reserve their spot in advance so that we can keep things running smoothly and keep the variety humming along. Tickets are $5 for performers, $10 for those just coming to be entertained. Performers, once you have purchased your $5 ticket, you will be provided with a link to secure your spot in the evening's line-up.
