Congratulations to DSO musicians Pamela Askew, Section Viola; Tom Demer, Section Viola; and Karen Schnackenberg, Principal Librarian, on their retirement this season!

Together, Pamela, Tom and Karen have contributed a combined 114 years of service to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. We are profoundly grateful for their dedication to musical excellence and the lasting impact each of these incredible musicians has made on the DSO and our audiences over the course of their remarkable careers.

To celebrate their retirement, we asked each of them to reflect on their time with us — from standout memories during their tenure to what they're looking forward to most in this next chapter. Read the full Q&A here: bit.ly/4dCAnkT

We couldn't let DSO Principal Librarian Karen Schnackenberg retire before having her on the Music Makers podcast!

For the last 36 years, Karen has dedicated her career to, as she puts it, "ensuring that the right music is in the right hands at the right time." Since 1990 there isn't a piece of music that hasn't crossed her desk in some way — from ordering the proper editions and correcting any printing errors, to marking bowings and rehearsal systems, and then carefully placing the music on each stand before a rehearsal or concert.

In this episode, we loved diving deep into the essential role of the orchestra library and hearing from Karen as she reflects on over three remarkable decades with the DSO.

Congratulations to our Young Musicians students on a fantastic performance at El Sistema USA's annual symposium!

For the first time on a national stage, 46 students traveled to Houston to represent the Dallas Symphony’s program alongside 150+ El Sistema-inspired programs from across the U.S. and Canada.

One of the biggest highlights of the trip came after their hour-long open rehearsal and concert, when the CEO of El Sistema USA asked the ensemble to perform an encore so even more administrators and teachers could experience what is possible for El Sistema-based programs. A huge congratulations to our students, faculty and education department on this incredible achievement!
