MOMMIE ISSUES. In 2016 I did a solo show called MY MORMON VALENTINE in Salt Lake City where I “perfected” this “Heavenly Mother” character which was a drag lampooning of the token Mormon doctrine where Heavenly Father has many wives. It also took on my own mother and former mother-in-law. If you only knew how much healing in therapy I’ve had to do as their “son.” Always in search of a mature version of my own dear mother and my extremely narcissistic former mother-in-law, I finally found the nurturing feminine divine when I came to the spiritual awakening that the Mormon Heavenly Mother I sought was, indeed, the Blessed Virgin Mary all along. Much more to come about my journey. But I wanted to share briefly and show just how fabulous I thought I was in my drag experiment! Not since I was the player queen in HAMLET at Utah Shakespeare Festival had I been in drag. It was an absolute blast though I’ve hung up that wig for good. And traded it for another. Ahem.
