PRINCESS BRANDAN·THURSDAY, JANUARY 11, 2018·
Ida Malone Jackson

“This book has been a process of love and commitment.”
For many years, I complained that the major producer of animated fairy tales had not produced a movie about African American girls and boys. When one was finally done, it was not an animated version. It was a re-make of a traditional fairy tale, and did not speak directly to th

e culture and attitudes which surrounded my daughters. Finally, it was as if the Lord said “Stop complaining and write your own story!” And so, in 1999, Princess BranDan was born with her own fairy tale storyline and named for my grand-niece Brandan (pronounced “Bran Dan”). I am most pleased that Princess BranDan is a story which will appeal to all young people, regardless of race or culture, for it is a story about the prince and princess in all of our children. I wanted it to be not only a highly entertaining book; but, one which would reinforce the core values that young people so desperately need in order to grow and mature into caring and responsible adults. Writing this book has been a process of love and commitment. It has inspired me to write the Princess BranDan Family Musical Stage Play, Songs, and Literary units. I trust that everyone who reads this book or sees the movie or play will reap something positive that they can use in their lives.

This is exactly the same reaction the little African American girls had when they met Princess BranDan after the Princess BranDan Family Musical Stage Play premiered at the Porter Sanford Performing Art Center in Decatur, Georgia in 2011. I want this amazing family-oriented play to continue!

Although I didn’t make it to the next level of America’s Favorite Teacher, I am humbled and grateful for the support given me. You’re awesome and as long as I have supporters of your caliber, the sky is not the limit to what we can accomplish together!

This is the beginning. I now spiral upwards to the beginning of the next circle!

The Lord did not bring me or you this far to leave us!!🥰🥰💙🤍💙

What is your favorite part of being an educator?
When I get an opportunity to effect positive change in how my students learn, view life, and see themselves as viable community contributors. I wrote "Inspiration" in 2002 and it is still relevant today --Excerpt: "It’s time to tell you how much you inspire me to teach. Just when I think you’re not getting it—you show me you need new goals to reach. You’re like our sun, the brightest shining star...Keep up the good work and never a challenge turn down—Unless it’s a vexation to soul and morally

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience.
I wrote "The 'ART' of Learning About Computers" curriculum for PreK4-8th grade. My most memorable teaching experience was when I was standing in the hallway and a PreK4 student interrupted my conversation with another teacher, looked up at me, and promptly began to sing the Mr. CPU song that had been taught to the class the previous day. Upon completion of the song, she smiled and left! LOL!!! The same reaction would be met with the keyboarding drill taught in my typing classes.

What would you do with the $25,000?
I would use it as seed money to publish my Princess BranDan book series, produce the Princess BranDan Family Musical Stage Play, and take care of a few personal needs such as ensuring that I have a suitable workspace, equipment, and reliable transportation.
