Happy Birthday to Connie Connally!

Today, we’re celebrating Connie, one of our longtime represented artists. From her early exhibitions with us to the work she continues to create today, it has been a pleasure to be part of her artistic journey.

To mark the occasion, we’re sharing one of her latest paintings alongside a look back at her 2009 exhibition, Coast Lines, in our former space. Across the years, Connie’s expressive use of color, movement, and abstraction has remained unmistakably her own.

We’re grateful for the many years we’ve shared with Connie and look forward to all that’s still to come.

There’s something about seeing New American Gothic in person that brings the exhibition together in a whole different way.

From one side of the gallery to the other, the works create some unexpected moments, with each angle offering a different look at what’s on view. We’re sharing a few of those views here, but there’s plenty more to see when you visit.

The opening of Common Ground is just around the corner! Next Wednesday, October 14, eight painters come together at DFN Projects in New York for an exhibition highlighting the many ways artists interpret and reimagine the landscape.

From memory and observation to atmosphere and abstraction, each artist brings a distinct perspective, creating unexpected connections through their shared interest in the landscape.

We’re excited to see Common Ground come together! If you’re in New York, we invite you to stop by DFN Projects for the opening reception and see the exhibition in person.

The front space brings together works by gallery artists Jon Krawczyk, Winston Lee Mascarenhas, Faith Scott Jessup, and Chris Stewart, including new works now making their debut in the gallery. Sculpture, abstraction, landscape, and gesture come together in a selection that rewards a closer look in person.

Jon Krawczyk transforms bronze into something unexpectedly fluid. The weight of the material gives way to curves and shifting surfaces, creating a sculpture that changes as you move around it.

Winston Lee Mascarenhas builds through color, abstraction, and layers of material, creating a surface that reveals more the longer you spend with it. His background in medicine, music, and visual art comes together in a practice shaped by rhythm, transformation, and process.

Faith Scott Jessup reimagines the landscape as something dreamlike, bringing patterned fabric into an otherwise natural setting. Floral drapery stretches across the landscape alongside birds and cactus, creating a scene that feels familiar at first, but becomes more unexpected the longer you look.

Faith Scott Jessup
Out West, 2026
Oil on Canvas

Chris Stewart brings gesture, color, and texture together in a composition that moves between landscape and abstraction. Layered marks and unpredictable drips create movement throughout, reflecting his interest in nature, memory, and the passage of time.

As we get ready to welcome you into the gallery, we’re highlighting Justin Penov and Marcos Alvarado, two independent artists invited to join New American Gothic.

Their work brings distinct perspectives to the mysterious and unsettling ideas at the center of the exhibition, offering another glimpse of what you’ll experience tonight.

Justin Penov takes the familiarity of home and makes it uncertain. Working in miniature, he reconstructs architectural details into spaces caught between shelter and ruin, where weathered surfaces and fragmented structures suggest histories we can sense but never fully know.

Marcos Alvarado creates surreal worlds where figures, landscapes, and celestial forms shift between the familiar and the otherworldly. Rooted in memory, folklore, and his connection to Puerto Rico, his work brings myth and unease into the exhibition.

Tonight, we finally get to share New American Gothic with you in full. Join us for the opening and the official beginning of Bardin Gallery. We look forward to welcoming you.
