Please join us in welcoming Sarah Russell, the Meadows Museum’s 2026–27 Center for Spain in America (CSA) Curatorial Fellow!

A doctoral candidate in art history at Columbia University, Russell will spend the next year at the Meadows advancing her research on the concept of engaño (deception) and desengaño (the discovery of truth through recognizing deception) in 17th-century Spanish painting while gaining hands-on curatorial experience.

Her research will draw on the Meadows’ collection, which includes works by El Greco, Diego Velázquez, Juan Carreño de Miranda and Claudio Coello, as she continues developing her dissertation, The Art of Undeception in the Spanish Golden Age.

We are delighted to welcome Sarah to the Meadows and look forward to the research, scholarship and new perspectives she will bring to the museum.

The fellowship is generously supported by the Center for Spain in America in collaboration with the Centro de Estudios Europa Hispánica (CEEH).

Ideas have long traveled across regions, influencing the ways people create, interpret, and experience art.

Over time, artistic traditions evolved through exchange, adaptation, and creative dialogue, resulting in works that reflect a rich range of cultural influences and perspectives.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, Spectacles of Power and Faith invites us to discover art from across South America and to consider the ideas, connections, and influences reflected throughout the exhibition.
