Rich Glasgow Fine Art Greetings and welcome to Rich Glasgow Fine Art. I plan to continue adding paintings on a regular basis. Hope you enjoy my paintings. Rich Glasgow

My interest in abstract modern art began in the late '80s/early '90s while working for customers who had high-end art pieces throughout their homes. Though I always thought of myself as a latent artist, I never had the ability to draw or paint anything in the realm of realism; even stick figures posed a problem. One of my customers commissioned an artist to paint an abstract on a domed ceiling in

her den and the artist invited me to help. That was my first real hands-on experience in doing a piece of abstract art—and I loved it. A few years later, another customer wanted me to replicate an ethereal finish, which she had found on a wallpaper sample. I matched it pretty closely and applied it to their 2500 square-foot ceiling at their beach condo in Destin, Florida. It involved layering eight different colors in a random fashion with wadded up plastic, while having to maintain consistency on the entire ceiling. I liked the finished look, so I applied it on our living room ceiling shortly thereafter. In the late '90s, while working in Phoenix, I attended several modern art shows that featured artwork using all manner of texture, which fascinated me. When I got back to Dallas, I started playing around with joint compound on canvas, forming various curves and swirls and incorporating multiple colors, acrylic, and oil to achieve interesting presentations. I continue to be fascinated by the unlimited possibilities of multiple textures, formations, and colors. Don't be a stranger—come back often!

Introducing "Vortex." This technicolor whirlpool pulls the viewer into the scene, drawing your eye in loops around the canvas. The brilliant blue acrylics and oil-based gold-leaf center evoke Van Gogh's "Starry Night." Other interpretations may include an underwater perspective of the sun, or perhaps a dragon's eye glaring at the viewer.

Whatever the meaning, this unique piece makes it difficult to look away. What do you see?

Introducing "Whiplash." In this abstract depiction of a whip in motion, heavy texture interacts with various colors to draw your eye across the canvas. The curvature of the strokes also possesses a serpentine quality, with either interpretation packing a creative punch.
