All it took was one little shake of the worm dish. πŸ˜‚πŸ”

One girl jumped back like, β€œAbsolutely not!” Meanwhile, Chulita came running to investigate and went straight for the worms. Then one by one, the rest followed and that little tap tap tap on the metal dish got louder and louder. πŸ˜‚

They may be one flock, but every one of these girls has her own personality. ❀️

Which one are you β€” Chulita running toward the snacks or the cautious girl watching from a safe distance? πŸ˜‚πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

Afternoon snack call! πŸ”πŸ§‘

I barely have to call before they start coming out of the bushes πŸ˜‚ But I always try to wait until everybody makes it over before I bring out the treats.

Of course, waiting patiently is apparently NOT part of the plan and before I know it, I have four little fence jumpers staring me down. πŸ˜‚

Today’s treat was fresh papaya! 🌴🧑

Who do you think was the first one to dig in? πŸ‘€

Part 2 coming next! πŸ”

Once five impatient chickens decided the table was theirs, I had to get everybody down, calm the chaos AND somehow open the worm bag while recording with one hand.

At one point my phone was basically filming my tennis shoe. πŸ‘ŸπŸ˜‚ Priorities!

But somehow we got there worms were served, the customers were satisfied, and peace was restored at least until the next treat bag comes out. πŸ˜‚

What would you call this little crew: impatient customers, tiny food inspectors, or the worm mafia? πŸ˜‚πŸ”

I was TRYING to get their water ready before handing out the worms but apparently I was taking too long. πŸ˜‚πŸ”

The second they saw that bag, all patience disappeared. One jumped on the table… then another… and somehow I ended up with FIVE very demanding customers waiting for service. 🀣πŸͺ±

And yes, they were letting me know exactly how they felt about the delay!

πŸ” Be honest: if you had five chickens staring you down like this, would you even TRY to make them wait? πŸ˜‚

Tiny Flock Diaries β€’ Part 5
I went in to put the babies to bed and found them like THIS. πŸ˜‚πŸ₯ Apparently their little dirt bath became tonight’s group bed! They were all piled together like one fluffy little blob. πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ Then Mama had to come ruin the sleepover and put everybody somewhere nice and warm for the night.

Do your chicks ever fall asleep in the strangest places? πŸ˜‚

Same heat. Two completely different personalities. πŸ˜‚πŸΎ

Mia is definitely the β€œOkay, I’m hot… can we go back inside now?” girl. πŸ˜‚ Sandy would stay outside investigating every sound if I let her!

They had shade, a fan blowing on them, water nearby, and had only been outside a little while but I could already see the heat in their panting. That’s my cue. After a few minutes with me, we headed back inside to the AC. ❀️

It also makes me think about all the animals outside in this heat without shade or a cool place to escape to. πŸ’” Please keep an eye on their body language they tell us when they’ve had enough.

Which one is your dog: Team AC like Mia or Team Outside like Sandy? πŸ˜‚

Some people ring a dinner bell I just bring out worms. πŸ˜‚πŸͺ±

The second this little container appears, everyone comes running. Violet even claimed the first bite before anyone else realized what was happening.

I had to keep moving the container so everyone had a chance to grab a snack. Watching them get so excited over something so simple never gets old.

Sometimes it’s the little moments like this that make backyard chickens so much fun.

If your chickens had to pick ONE favorite treat, what would it be?
