When George came near, I realized that leaving the rat there could put my dogs, cat, chickens, and local wildlife at risk. If another animal ate a poisoned rodent, it could also be exposed to the poison.

I asked Sam to help me retrieve him. By the time we returned, the little rat had already passed away, so we removed him from the area and disposed of him.

It was difficult to watch, but protecting every animal including the ones that might find him later was the responsible thing to do.

Did you know poisoned rodents could also endanger other animals?

I thought he was dead then I saw him breathing. 💔

After rat poison was placed nearby, several dead or dying rats began appearing in our yard. This had never happened before.

I didn’t know what to do. I only knew that I needed to move him away from my chickens and dogs, so I carefully carried him to a quiet area and tried offering him water.

But then I realized that simply moving him wasn’t enough and other animals could still be in danger.

I delivered fresh ice water, but apparently Denzel needed to inspect my work and then dismiss me. 😂🐓

Meanwhile, Peaches monitored everything from behind the bushes, and Violet got caught during a private grooming moment. Just another normal day in the chicken yard!

George heard me talking to Latte and came over to investigate. Apparently, he decided it was his turn for an interview and his payment was ear scratches. 😂🤍

Does your dog appear whenever you’re giving someone else attention?

Latte was the only one around, and she immediately knew the routine come close, get Mama’s attention, and enjoy the bowl all by herself. Chickens are much smarter than people realize. God’s creation is beautiful. 🤎🐔
