The CROWN Act was created in 2019 by Dove and the CROWN Coalition to ensure protection against discrimination based on race-based hairstyles by extending statutory protection to hair texture and protective styles such as braids, locs, twists, and knots in the workplace, housing and public schools.

Set for debate in the Texas Legislature this Wednesday. A dayum shame that we have to pass laws to wear our hair the way that it naturally grows. Only in Texas.

Lot's of posts erroneously attributing Texas energy issue to green energy. FALSE. Here are the FACTS:

Wind energy - less than 18% of the state's total energy output
Some turbines are frozen due to extreme temperatures. Weatherization packages to prevent this were not installed or purchased to cut costs.

Natural gas - more than 40%of the state's energy output
Gas has been hindered due to weather frozen pipes that were not buried far enough undergound and there's a higher demand for service than anticipated.

Solar energy -less than 1% of the state's energy comes from this source.

Coal energy -30% of the states energy comes from coal.
Again, the level of demand was not forecasted so reserves were not properly managed.

The remaining energy is contracted from municipalities.

Texas is the only state with it's own power grid. This prevents the state from adhering to federal regulations. It also prevents the state from having additional sources from neighboring states in a crisis.

So who regulates the state's energy?
The Governor has the ultimate responsibility.
The Public Utility Commission (appointed by the Gov.) and
State Legislature has oversight
ERCOT - a membership-based 501 (c) (4) nonprofit corporation, governed by a board of directors and subject to oversight by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature is a private company responsible for providing energy to the state.
Texas Railroad Commission - the regulatory branch for energy responsible for setting and maintaining standards.

So, in a nutshell this is what happened:
ERCOT cut corners to decrease costs and increase profits. The Railroad Commision approved the cuts. The PUC and State Legislature allowed the cuts and the Governor signed off on the orders.
