Community radio matters because it makes room for voices, music, ideas, and experiments that don’t have to answer to an algorithm or a corporate playlist. It gives artists and independent programmers a place to take chances, build community, and make something human together.

Your support keeps ART FM on the air and makes independent community broadcasting possible. I’m grateful to Tracy, John, Aaron, James, Don, Gregory, Sarah, and everyone who listened, shared, donated, or cheered us on.

It’s Give For Good Louisville, and today we're raising funds for A R T x F M, the independent community radio station that lets Cardwell's Cove go out live every week.

Community radio makes room for human-selected music, strange detours, diverse voices, and the kind of discovery an algorithm cannot manufacture. It keeps the airwaves interesting.

I always love hearing from listeners, and every once in a while a comment lands like this one: “You are my virtual console stereo.” High praise indeed for a show like mine. I have so many fond memories of sitting by a console stereo, flipping through records, loading up an 8-track, or watching the reels turn on my grandfather’s reel-to-reel, and that spirit is still at the heart of Cardwell's Cove: music chosen by a human, shared with other humans. This week (Sept 10) is Give for Good Louisville, and you can support community radio at A R T x F M, break the algorithm, and help keep a platform open for real human voices, adventurous (and, if we’re being honest, a little weird sometimes) programming, and the kind of connection no recommendation engine can manufacture.

Join me this Monday / LABOR DAY from 6pm-8pm! I will be guest hosting for Brian Manley. I will also have a special guest, my good friend Surfer Joe Bringardner!!!

Give for Good Day this Thursday, September 10!!!!!

Art FM also recognizes that Friday is the 25-Year Anniversary of 9.11 Day. Joe is coordinating a large-scale community service event at Churchill Downs this Friday. It is in support of Dare to Care Louisville Food Pantry preparing and serving over 176,000 meals for local families in need. We will talk about this important event!

We will also be highlighting AmeriCorps and the impact it has had around Kentucky!!

Finally, we will be spinning some great tunes!!!!

Aloha, and welcome to the weekend on the warm, tropical shores of Cardwell's Cove!

Every Friday, I get one hour to build a little world out of music. No algorithms. No automated playlists. No corporate programming. Just a carefully curated audio experience, assembled track by track from music I love, strange things I’ve stumbled across, forgotten records, unexpected connections, and whatever rabbit hole I happen to have disappeared down that week.

Sometimes it swings. Sometimes it surfs. Sometimes it gets weird. That’s kind of the point.

That’s also the beauty of community radio. A R T x F M is made by real people with actual points of view, sharing music because they genuinely want you to hear it. In an increasingly automated world, there’s something pretty radical about that.

And with Give for Good Louisville coming up next week on September 10, this is the time of year when we ask you to help keep it that way. ARTxFM is volunteer-powered, independent, free-form radio, broadcasting locally in Louisville and streaming worldwide.
