Hey everyone 🙂 I never do long posts, but feel like this one deserves it! I am so happy that this project has launched and is now live for you all to check out! If you were around me earlier this year, you know I was putting in some long days and was pretty much unavailable to the rest of the world from moving out of my house early April to working on this project from mid April to mid June!
I am pretty proud of this one and very thankful to have had the opportunity to combine my painting, photo editing, prop styling, design, and photo assisting all into one and to collaborate with so many talented people!
I have worked with the Von Maur crew for many years photo assisting and earlier this year Rick Lozier and Kathryn Gamble Lozier pitched the idea to have me paint backgrounds for the Back to School Campaign. I was on board and our Von Maur clients were open to hearing what we had to propose. After brainstorming together we landed on me painting the backdrops on smaller canvases that I could then photoshop and place digitally into Kathryn and Rick's photos as well as have physical hand painted props that would be interacted with on set. We sat down and discussed their vision for the photos and what the backdrops and props should be.
In the links below you will see my paintings of a classroom, lockers, school bus, school front, and paintings and illustrations throughout like the hula hoops, stop sign, camera, pencils and polaroids. As well as props like the stairs that we had built, Rick primed, and then I painted, the desks, the globe, easel, balls, school books, and textured backgrounds.
After this work was done Kathryn beautifully captured all the on figure photography and Rick took amazing photos of all of the off-figure product photography. I also began my product styling role during this campaign following the talented Bailey Stone and styling some shots on my own.
Once we realized how hand in hand the lookbook design and my photoshop work of putting everything together went hand in hand, Von Maur also asked me if I would be interested in designing the full lookbook. I of course said yes, but knew I would want the help, creative and knowledgeable skills, and experienced eye of my momma Bridget Sandquist and I couldn't done it without her and her expertise - so fun finalizing the lookbook as well as a postcard together!
Thank you to Jessica Stoltz and Kate Stoefen with Von Maur for trusting the vision and for us to shoot this way and allowing me to work on this campaign. Thank you so much Rick and Kathryn for always believing in me and pushing me to push myself and believe in my self and for all your work making the shoot happen! Thank you momma for tackling this with me and designing a beautiful type and layout.
Also shout out to the other talented ladies on set:
