The Daingerfield Beginning Band (81 members strong!!) had their first combined after school rehearsal yesterday! They are sounding great despite not having their instruments until middle of September! Ms. Luoma has done a fantastic job shaping these beginners up for their first performance of the year next Thursday!

Very successful day at Texas High School for the Four States Marching band invitational! We could not stay for finals, but we came back with 7 awards!
Scores were: Music-2, Visual-2, Percussion-1, Guard-1 (140 points away from a perfect!!)
Tiger Band is making waves!

Good morning everyone!

Don't forget that band camp is this next week.
We will go from 1-8 pm with a one hour break for your students to go get food from 4-5.
Snacks will be provided.
We are still accepting water donations! Please drop those off at the band room any time tomorrow. We will be at lunch from 10:30-12 in the morning, so just leave them by the door if you come at that time.

Remember that if you are not at band camp, im taking that as your "letter of resignation" from band. I really encourage you, if you're thinking about quitting, to come give it a shot! I promise to make it an enjoyable experience and to make you guys sound awesome.

Good morning! Ms. Luoma and I have had a very busy past 2 weeks! We got to perform with ULM (Louisiana-Monroe) at Carnegie Hall, got engaged in New York City, got stuck in Virgina on layover, and packed an entire house and moved our stuff 3 and a half hours here on Wednesday!
We are exhausted, but are so excited to finally be here!

I just have a couple announcements to make regarding band:
To my understanding, band camp was scheduled to be July 28th, we are going to keep that the same, so we will begin at 1pm on that day, eat at 4, and continue from 5-8pm. That is tentative to change depending on what kind of Professional Development we will need to attend since we are new to the district.
Thank you all for being so patient and flexible with this.

I would like to do a meet and greet July 24th in the band room at 5pm!
Everyone is welcome, this will not be a formal meeting, we just want to meet as many of you as possible and let yall see our faces!

July 25th will be a band room cleaning day/leadership meeting: at the leadership meeting we will discuss ways to improve the band program on the student side, stand tunes, philosophy, practice marching style, and get to know each other.

As stated in my last post, I like to use the Band App to do all of our primary communication for events. All students in the band MUST join the Band App because it will have a calender of events, and you will know in real time if a rehearsal needs to be cancelled/rescheduled or added to our calender. Parents are HIGHLY encouraged to join the Band App. When you join the band app you'll see that I have posted a bio of myself so you can learn a little more about me. Ms. Luoma is working on hers right now.

When you join the band app, in your request put your real name, your grade level, and your instrument that you will be playing. Parents, include the name of your student! If you have any questions at all please reach out to me on the band app!!

Good evening everyone! My name is Dakota Sanson and I am going to be taking over as your new head band director! I am very excited to make my way over to Texas from Louisiana (no we do not ride alligators to school). Your assistant band director will be my other half Alli Luoma. We are experienced working in a small school district and with students of all personalities, and are excited to experience all of yours. This year is going to be a ton of fun y'all. I am THRILLED to join the team and give you everything I've got.

I am going to be performing with my old college wind ensemble (University of Louisiana at Monroe) at Carnegie Hall in New York city this next week and am looking to get moved in and cleaning the band room the first week of July. That's when I will be available to try and have leadership meetings and get more familiar with the area. I will have camp dates finalized once I am moved in and through this busy busy busy time of the month.

I also like to use the BAND app for communication and putting events on the calendar. I try to make sure you know about everything you need to be at at least 2 weeks in advance. I'll be creating the band app soon and will post signups here. This will be for all students currently participating in the marching band and parents of those students.

As for our show this year, we are still going to be playing "All Aboard". I am REALLY excited to get to work with you all on that and I know we are going to go to competitions and do very well.

As for stand tunes for football games, I want to hold a voting session that anyone in the band can attend to see what you guys want to play this year! I will also be bringing in some fun stand tunes to try and see if we like.

I know that band director changes are hard. I hope you will all trust me to lead you all to success and be your band director. I'll be posting a bio about myself and Ms. Luoma will post one about her so that you can learn a little more about us. PLEASE let me know if you have any questions and I will let you know to the best of my ability. I am still getting familiar with the area and everything, but if you have any music questions, I am always ready for those.
