Stunning. Thought-provoking. Powerful. Wonderfully conversational within the exhibit. These were words and phrases floating around our newest Arborescent exhibition reception last evening. We agreed and were truly grateful for the responses, and thank everyone who attended! 😊 πŸ™ ❀️

Photographic artist Kathleen Massi's series "Still, Unstill" speaks about the interval between the rootedness and movement of trees. Using techniques including intentional camera movement and double exposure, Kathleen's photographs present trees as they become animated by wind, light, changes of season, and passage of time.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, painter Donna Corvi draws inspiration from the natural environment, with particular interest in the abstraction of trees and branches at their different stages of growth throughout the seasons.

πŸ“Œ Reception Saturday 5-7pm - open to all.

We are so pleased to have quite a few artworks debuting in the Arborescent IV exhibition that opens tomorrow. Sag Harbor artist Carolyn Conrad has five works from her Lullaby Series included in the exhibition that are debuting to the public.

πŸ’™ Reconsidering safer materials than plaster compounds and sanded surfaces in her studio environment, Carolyn began working with paper, gouache, and watercolor for a cleaner working area. That shift also transformed her work from a monochromatic palette to a full range of color, and familiar forms including birds, tree leaves, and vessels became the foundation for layered, lyrical compositions.

"Lullaby Series #1" by Carolyn Conrad.
Gouache on watercolor paper mounted on 3/4" wood.

Float framed contemporary white wood.

😊 When I use my bluetooth earbuds, there's alway that voice that actively states, "Pairing" when connecting devices. That's fun to hear given my profession as art curator, and I think of it when mounting an exhibition as I am always considering Pairings - works that complement each other and converse with each other.

🧑 Here are some of my favorite pairings from the Summer Selects exhibition. Stop in and let us know which pairings are your favorites.
