I have set items I make but also do custom work, so if you're looking for a forged item let me know what you want! My name is Donald McIlvain, the owner and smith of Grimmet forge. The Grimmet Forge is named after the McIlvain family lands in Scotland and celebrates my family's heritage and the old way of life. I am a preacher, missionary, and blacksmith. The purpose of my forge is to create beaut
iful and useful things out of discarded broken junk and to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ Who can create beautiful things out of discarded and broken lives. When the Lord called me to the ministry I thought I had to give it up, and I did. When I went to Mongolia as a missionary tools and hardware were scarce. I thought if I only had a forge. Christians sometimes think that they must give all up when Christ only asks that we be willing to give things up. Sometimes He wants to use our talents. A blacksmith friend named Fred Hunter put together a forge and an anvil with a few basic tools and we had them shipped to Mongolia. I was self taught and learned from books. When the Lord brought us back to the US, I went out to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to train under Frank Turly. Frank Turly is the gran daddy of the modern blacksmith movement. The Lord used that time to show me the need for churches out West. After my time at Turly's, I met master smith Jack Miller who became a friend and mentor. He taught me the importance of perfection in blacksmithing. My wife Tina and I, our eight children, three dogs, two cats and one turtle live in Cut Bank, Montana. In addition to Blacksmithing, I Pastor Cut Bank Baptist Church and minister on and off the Blackfeet Indian reservation. My hand forged Items are quality and beauty. I can do custom orders. I will regularly post new items and shop photos. I also have a shop on Etsy - you can find me under the shop name House of Grimmet. Thank you for visiting Grimmet Forge.
