Theatre 605 has year-round offices in Rapid City and Sioux Falls, SD and seasonal operations from May through August in Custer State Park. Theatre 605 is a regional professional theatre that manages the following programs:
1) Since 1946, the Black Hills Playhouse (affiliated with the University of South Dakota College of Fine Arts) has produced outstanding theatre in Custer State Park. Artists ar
e recruited from across the country to work in this idyllic location where the buffalo roam. Sets, costumes, lights, and props are all professionally designed and built on site. It is one of the oldest continuously operated summer stock theaters in America, with approximately 15,000 admissions sold each season for shows that run from June through mid-August.
2) Theatre 605 Tours: Professionally trained actor/directors travel the region, taking theatre residencies and workshops to communities large and small, introducing youth K-12 to the benefits of performing arts.
3) Theatre 605 Jr. Camps: Summer camps for kids in grades 5 - 7 and 8-12 held at the University of South Dakota campus, where kids learn about performing arts, participate in fun activities, and make memories for a lifetime.
4) Theatre 605 Expanding Stage: Theatre 605 works with partners to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to learn about performing arts and shine onstage in Sioux Falls, SD.
