Cristen Joy Photography grew up learning photography on film. She carried that knowledge over when she traded in her 35 mm for a full frame camera (same size as 35 mm). Cristen's approach to photography is to create something from what is before her. Her photographs are authentic and real.

Welcoming Lazy Dragon Arts to the Custer Fine Artists Festival!
Specializing in large-scale charcoal on canvas, Charlie Jo explores the intersection of Western history and wildlife through a lens of atmospheric realism. By focusing on the interplay of light and deep shadow, they bring forward the 'ghosts' of the American West—from the stoic wildlife of the plains to the forgotten laborers of the mines.

"I don’t see a blank canvas; I see a silence waiting to be broken. To me, these animals and western spirits are already there, resting beneath the surface. My work is simply the process of listening to that texture of silence and using charcoal to uncover the life that has been waiting in the shadows all along." -Charlie Jo

Charlie currently lives near Lead and you can see more of her art on her website: https://charlie-jos-art.myshopify.com/
