GDC is extremely excited to announce that our final meeting of the year will be featuring a rap by Mr. McLeod and a guest speaker from Psyonix! The event will take place this Tuesday, May 11th, at lunch and the zoom link to attend is https://bit.ly/gdczoom2020. We guarantee it's going to be lots of fun and you don't even have to be a GDC member to attend!

The guest speaker, Jacob Mott, is a Systems Designer at Psyonix, a game development company that is known for the popular video game Rocket League. We will also be hosting a Q&A session afterwards, and you can definitely learn a lot about the behind-the-scenes action of some of your favorite games.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Hey Tino! As the general school year comes to an end, officer app season is coming in full swing. GDC is looking for two mentors to help us out next year, and we would like for you to apply! The application link is http://bit.ly/gdcofficerapps2021, and is due by 3 PM on May 2nd, 2021. We encourage everyone to submit something, independent of prior experience with GDC.

Detailed requirements are available on the form itself, but in general, we are looking for mentors who have a moderate understanding of Unity, can commit a few hours per week to the club, and are able to teach small groups of people. We wish you the best of luck on your applications!

Hey Tino!

The Game Development Club will soon start our Unity ML Agents block, where everyone can learn the basics of machine learning and watch their models learn to interact with a 3D world by themselves! More specifically, you can learn how neural networks work without immediately having to learn Tensorflow; you can use C #, which is similar to the Java language taught in APCS and Intro to Java.

These lessons will be held every club meeting—Tuesday at lunch—as usual. The first session for Unity ML Agents will be held on March 30th. Make sure you do not miss this if you are interested!

Hey Everyone!

From the previous post that included the promo video, you might have already gotten a glimpse of what GDC Teams will entail. As a reminder, please create your teams by 2/2 at http://bit.ly/gdcteamspart1. We’ll be having time during next week’s meeting for you all to fill out the form and brainstorm your game ideas.

In summary, GDC Teams is intended to give GDC members a project with which they can display their game development skills and drive to make a successful game. At the same time, members have the freedom to choose what they want to make, while also giving them the option of supporting other projects to make them greater.

Individual teams who participate in GDC Teams can also opt to participate in a game jam—hackathons specifically for games—in order to further demonstrate their game development skills in a competitive setting. By encouraging students to write publicity plans, GDC Teams helps members spread word about their games through their communities, while simultaneously exercising their communication and marketing skills.

GDC Teams members can also learn through weekly consultations with a dedicated mentor; teams can bounce game ideas off of their mentors, as well as ask them questions. The mentor will also serve to ensure teams make consistent progress. Members can either join an existing team or create their own team. Teams are run by the members themselves; while they can take suggestions from their mentors, they ultimately make their own decisions for their games.

Once again, make sure to fill out the Team Creation Form (http://bit.ly/gdcteamscreation) in order to join!
