Crystal Children's Choir

Crystal Children's Choir Youth and children's vocal music education and ambassadors of children’s choral music

Crystal Children’s Choir was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994. Since then, it has grown into an organization of over one thousand members. Choir members rehearse every week with their respective ages and skill levels in four Bay Area cities – Cupertino, Fremont, Foster City, and San Jose. The choir has toured Australia, Asia, Europe, and North America, and has performed at numerous pr

estigious venues including St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican, Taipei National Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House, Davies Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Beijing Concert Hall. Crystal has been invited to perform at several music organizations such as CMEA, MENC, OAKE, and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) National Conferences. The choir has won awards and praises in the music festivals they have attended. We aspire to be cultural ambassadors of children’s choral music, especially in the field of Chinese folk songs and newly commissioned works. Through a unique musical and life-enhancing education offering to its choristers, Crystal Children’s Choir hopes to nurture teamwork, love of music, and excellence in choral singing among younger generations.

And that’s a wrap for our 10-day South Africa trip! We sang our way from Johannesburg, Pretoria and Soweto to Cape Town. We opened our eyes to centuries of history filled with transformation and discovery. Throughout the different cities, we made friends, dove into culture and expanded our horizons.

Our conductors, Dr. Karl and Ms. Whitney, challenged us to grow, connect and stand on our own stories through song. During this musical journey, our accompanist Ms. Anna supported steadily at the piano and our diligent chaperones took photos, woke us up on time and made sure we were always ready for our performances. Before, during and after the trip, our group director and trip leader Ms. Diana made sure every event on our extensive agenda was thoroughly planned and overseen without a hiccup. To the Class of ‘26 seniors, we miss you already!

We especially want to thank Classical Movements and Mr. Johannes for hosting this tour and providing such a smooth experience for Crystal! Special shoutout to Mr. Patrick & Mr. Pieter for elevating our bus tours.

BIG SMILES and ENDLESS HARMONIES to: Lyrikos Community Youth Choir, Meadowlands Chorale, Mokgome Secondary School, Parklands College Choir, South African Youth Choir and Tygerberg Children’s Choir.

Until next time, Africa. Thank you for this memorable adventure! 🎶🇿🇦

Climbing to the top of Table Mountain in cable cars, we explored one of the seven wonders of the world! We enjoyed brunch with breathtaking 360° views of South Africa from the South Atlantic Ocean to inland Cape Town.

Our afternoon musical experience at St. George’s Cathedral included an exclusive rehearsal with the South African Youth Choir led by Phil Robinson who taught an African prayer for peace “Ukuthula” to our Y6 and 7 choirs.

The evening featured Crystal, Tygerberg Children’s Choir and SAYC in a captivating concert with songs from five different continents. At the end, all groups sang and shared the stage, receiving a standing ovation. What a night full of friendship and musicmaking!

Continuing with our travels, we ventured to the Most South-Western Point of the African Continent: Cape of Good Hope!

Surrounded by vast Fynbos vegetation, our singers hiked to the top of a beautiful lighthouse and also took many selfies with penguins.

In the evening we had a resounding performance at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre with Lyrikos Community Youth Choir and Parklands College Choir. We even learned a special arrangement of “Modimo Rea ho Boka” and choralography from Lyrikos director Lizl Gaffley — inspirational!
We’ll cherish the warm audience greeting in the lobby as we chanted “Dubula” cheerily all the way to the buses.
