Crystal Children's Choir

Crystal Children's Choir Youth and children's vocal music education and ambassadors of children’s choral music

Crystal Children’s Choir was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994. Since then, it has grown into an organization of over one thousand members. Choir members rehearse every week with their respective ages and skill levels in four Bay Area cities – Cupertino, Fremont, Foster City, and San Jose. The choir has toured Australia, Asia, Europe, and North America, and has performed at numerous pr

estigious venues including St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican, Taipei National Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House, Davies Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Beijing Concert Hall. Crystal has been invited to perform at several music organizations such as CMEA, MENC, OAKE, and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) National Conferences. The choir has won awards and praises in the music festivals they have attended. We aspire to be cultural ambassadors of children’s choral music, especially in the field of Chinese folk songs and newly commissioned works. Through a unique musical and life-enhancing education offering to its choristers, Crystal Children’s Choir hopes to nurture teamwork, love of music, and excellence in choral singing among younger generations.

Up next we have yet another soprano: Nicole Lee!

Throughout her 8 years in Crystal, Nicole has always brought the energy that makes rehearsals & trips fun, whether that’s sharing snacks during break time or pranking her friends with scary makeup in the hotel.

Outside of choir, you can find her in her adventurous element, going on runs and teaching her very own rollerblading classes.

Nicole’s advice to younger singers is: “Remember that at the end of the day, your support group are the ones that hold you together in crisis, so choose them well.”

To Nicole: thank you so much for always being such an enthusiastic member of the choir community!! Whenever we come to choir after a stressful week, you and your optimism are there to get our spirits up, and we appreciate that so so much 😊

Crystal’s Annual Concert is TOMORROW!!

Make sure to come support Nicole on May 17th 3pm or 7pm @ Saratoga High School!

Our next senior is our lovely Soprano 1: Claire Wu!!

Claire has been in Crystal for 12 years 🥳🥳and has served as our CMC camp leader and program book designer!

Whether she’s playing notes on a virtual piano or fixing our rhythm when we are off beat, Claire is always there to keep our section in check!

Claire’s favorite choir trip was to Taiwan and her favorite choir memory is falling into a hot spring during a 5am walk in Jeju, Korea…

How did that happen? Please consult Claire, at the annual concert this Sunday 😉

And of course, no ranking of Claire’s favorite choir memories would be complete without the legendary Korea WeChat tickle war 😂Terribly sorry Anna Lin laoshi but ??

To Claire: thank you, thank you, thank you for always carrying sopranos with your quiet but mighty energy. Your sight reading skills are off the charts, and you def are the model student every conductor wishes we were, but sometimes that comes with the downside of needing a little more time to pick up on choreo

Gentle reminder that Crystal’s Annual Concert is 2 days away!! Time to brush up on Dubula Choreoooooooooooooooo

Make sure to come support Claire on May 17th 3pm or 7pm @ Saratoga High School!

Coming your way is our tenor: Kevin Fang!

Kevin has been with Crystal for a crazy 5 years, proving that it's never too late to join choir, find family, and make unforgettable memories 😊😊During his time here, he has served as our tenor section lead and CMC camp leader!

If there is one thing Kevin does best, it is making choir trips unforgettable! From climbing rooftops in Taiwan to getting lost during a late-night walk in Canada, Kevin has truly experienced the full choir trip package 😭

Kevin’s favorite choir trip was to Taiwan and his favorite Crystal memory is getting yelled at by Karl during rehearsals! Although scary, the Karl finger point or gunshot will be missed 🙁

Outside of choir, Kevin can almost always be found at Mitsuwa eating mango flavored desserts because apparently choir rehearsals require proper fueling (catch him there pre-concert on Sunday)

Word of advice to younger singers: “go on choir trips!!!!!!” According to Kevin, trips are where the best memories unfold!

To Kevin: although you joined Crystal a tad bit later than many of us, we are soo grateful you became part of our family. You have brought so much to our choir and it's hard to imagine Crystal without you.

Kind reminder that Crystal’s Annual Concert is 3 days away!

Make sure to come support Kevin on May 17th 3pm or 7pm @ Saratoga High School!

Next up is our amazing Alto: Sophia D’sa! If we ever need someone to amaze a crowd, Sophia would be the very first senior we’d send out. Ask her to recite the lyrics of 城裡的月光 and she’ll deliver it with crazy perfect pronounciation!

Sophia has been with Crystal for 12 years 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀. She has dedicated her time as our alto 1 section lead and SMC/CMC camp lead!

Throughout her years in Crystal, Sophia has mastered the skill of braiding everyone’s hair. If you spot any young women wearing princess hairstyles this Sunday, it's probably because Sophia couldn’t get to all of us in time 🥲

Sophia’s favorite choir trip was to Taiwan, where she ate an absurd amount of cong you bing!!! And like Karl always says, “eating more makes you sing better”, so maybe Sophia’s incredible voice really does come from all that food 🤷‍♀️

A few things Sophia will miss about choir are staying up until 3am with her friends (+playing sudoku) and the spontaneous bus karaokes after every night performance.

Sophia’s advice to younger singers is to “go all out! Energy is contagious, on and off stage”.

To Sophia: you are a FORCE. Thank you for your endless contributions to Crystal. Your leadership, energy, and kindness are irreplaceable, and we are beyond grateful for your unwavering dedication to this family.

Warm reminder that Crystal’s Annual Concert is 4 days away!

Make sure to come support Sophia on May 17th 3pm or 7pm @ Saratoga High School!

Up next is our beloved senior: Giselle Stern!!

10 years in Crystal and she somehow still can’t stop laughing on AND off stage 😹. As our Soprano 2 section lead, level 2 piano accompanist, ADC/SMC camp leader, and honorary CMC leader, Giselle has truly done it all!

Whether she’s calling us out for being off pitch or laughing contagiously when Karl makes seniors sing in front of class, Giselle has become the heart and sole entertainer of our choir.

Tenor? Alto? Soprano? Giselle can be anything you ask her to be! Maybe in another life Karl would have her change parts every Sunday

Giselle’s favorite choir trip was to Jeju, Korea, and her favorite choir memory is staying up past midnight during concert music camp.

To Giselle: thank you for bringing sooo much joy and laughter to every Sunday rehearsal. We are beyond grateful you show up to rehearsal knowing ur notes 🥹🫰 You fully are the role model every younger singer looks up to and aspires to become.

Friendly reminder that Crystal’s Annual Concert is 5 days away!

Make sure to come support Giselle on May 17th 3pm or 7pm @ Saratoga High School!

WE’RE BACKKK!! Did you miss us (seniors)? Because we missed you! Next up is our one and only KOREAN senior: Christian Ahn! 🇰🇷

Christian has been with Crystal for 10 years (soooo close to 12 yet quite far…)! He has served as our CMC/SMC camp leader, vice president for .majorproblem, and alto2 section lead for 1 semester before downgrading to tenor (jkjk)!

After a decade in Crystal, Christian has mastered the art of faking his chinese. If Anna Lin Laoshi started conducting entirely in Chinese, Christian would probably be more locked in than half of Y7 combined. Perhaps that’s why his favorite choir trip is Taiwan and not his motherland Korea. He didn’t go to Korea btw…

Christian’s word of advice to younger singers is to “Take the time to really understand yourself and make your own definition of success!”
To Christian: thank you for giving your all to Crystal these past few years, whether that looks like stepping up for solos, leading camps, or carrying rehearsals with your loud energy. Your dedication, willingness to be present, and ability to confidently nod along to chinese instructions like you were born knowing them will definitely be missed.

Friendly reminder that Crystal’s Annual Concert is 6 days away!

Make sure to come support Christian on May 17th 3pm or 7pm @ Saratoga High School!
