A huge, ginormous thank you to Anna Bella for the donation of this water bath!!
This is a game changer for the rehab this year, this wonderful device quickly and gently warms formula to a specific temperature and keeps it there!
No more fussing with temperamental bottle warmers and cold or curdling formula! And I can warm two concentrations of formula at the same time! šŸ¼šŸŽ‰

Thank you so much, Anna! šŸŒæšŸ‡

Massachusetts friends, the time is now.
Our wildlife is suffering at staggering rates due to the use of SGARs and other anticoagulant rodenticides.

Please take action by sending this pre written letter from Cape Ann Wildlife, Inc to your legislators.

-in 2024 100% of the red tailed hawks admitted to Tufts Wildlife Center tested positive for SGARs
-Recently a necropsy revealed the first confirmed death of a snapping turtle due to SGARs
-Foxes, coyotes and mammals also suffer from the poisoning, often combined with painful and slow co-infections such as mange.

These animas are our natural rodent control, lets protect them.

Massachusetts Residents,

We need your help now on this important Rodenticide Legislation Vote on April 15. Below is a prepared email from Mass Audubon that you can send to your state senator. Just click on Take Action.

Thank you for your help on passing this amendment to save our raptors and pets

Cottontail Cottage Wildlife Rehab does amazing work and has a gift with words.

Over 90% of my patients that didn’t make it to release last year had encounters with domestic pets šŸ’”

Please be respectful of the world we all share šŸŒŽ

I think one of the most dangerous shifts in our society is how entitled we have become to everything around us.

Somewhere along the way, we started believing that everything belongs to us and by extension, to our pets too. Even the wild…

Every time you walk into a park, a preserve, or a trail, you are entering someone else’s home. That’s not a metaphor, it’s the truth.

There is a mother fox raising her babies there. There is a rabbit hiding her newborns in the grass, relying on stillness to keep them alive.

And we walk in and unclip the leash.

I was at a local park recently walking my dog on leash, as required. We passed more than ten dogs. All but one were off leash in a park where leashes are clearly required.

About eighty percent of the animals who come into our care were attacked by off leash dogs or roaming cats.

80% percent!

I see the injuries, I see the fear, I see the babies left behind because their mother did not make it back.

Then come the social media posts…

ā€œA coyote attacked my dog.ā€ ā€œA fox went after my dog.ā€ These wild animals must be vicious right?!?

But when you ask if the dog was on leash, the answer is almost always no.

What people call aggression is often a mother defending her home, her babies, her life.

That is not cruelty, it’s survival.

Wildlife populations have declined by about 73% percent in the last 50 years.

They are disappearing, and we are still treating them like they are in our way.

I’m not asking for perfection. I’m asking for respect.

Please leash your dog and keep your cats indoors. Follow the rules in the few places wildlife still have left.

Because for them, this is not a park.

This is their home.

Please clean, disinfect and take down your bird feeders for a few weeks! I know it’s sad to see hungry birds, but this disease is highly contagious and our local finch populations are suffering!

Hey Wildlife Friends! We have an epidemic of "finch eye disease" (Mycoplasma Conjunctivitis). This is a picture of what this disease looks like. It most commonly effects House Finches, Purple Finches, and American Goldfinches. And it is a highly infectious and deadly to these birds. The most common way this disease spreads is through unclean bird feeders. If you are still using bird feeders, please take them down and clean/disinfect them. If you see any sick finches, please take down the feeders and keep them down. I understand it is sad seeing hungry birds. However, you will be saving birds by making them disperse to find other food sources.
I currently have eight sick finches in care and expect more. It takes three or more weeks of medication before these birds are safe to release. I need your help to stop the spread of this disease. Let's work together to save them.

Wildlife baby season is upon us!
With longer nicer days on the horizon, it seems like a good time for a friendly reminder:

No. Please DO NOT move or relocate rabbit nests!

Mom knows exactly where her nest is, but if it’s moved (even a few feet) she won’t be able to find it to feed her babies!

It’s not all bad news though— rabbit kits grow fast and are independent in just a few short weeks and us wildlife rehabbers have all sorts of clever tricks to help protect the nest from pets and predators!

So if you or your pets find a rabbit nest you’re concerned about this year, call a local rehabber for some advice! Maybe you’ll even have the pleasure of watching these amazing creatures grow up in your own backyard!
