What a DAY at the track for Nolan Cozadd Racing.
Racing can humble you real fast, and today was definitely an up and down day. Nolan had a brand new engine installed earlier this week and his car was dialed in thanks to some incredible help from one of our track legends. The car looked FAST right from the start.
Nolan started the heat qualifying race in 2nd and was making a move for the lead when he got caught in a wreck. Unfortunately the driver in front of him didnโt realize Nolan was underneath them and caused some serious damage to the his car. We later discovered a shock was jammed and the tie rod connecting the steering to the tires had taken a big hit.
On the restart coming out of turn 2, Nolan turned the wheel and the tie rod finally snapped, sending him straight into the wall right in front of us. The impact also broke the chain that drives the rear wheels, and we had to bring the car BACK to the pits on a furniture dolly.
But this is where the racing family stepped in.
The guys in the pits jumped into action just like a NASCAR pit crew. With the help of some amazing people, including Tallant Motorsports and Ferguson Motorsports and the incredible support of everyone around us, they managed to replace the rod, relink the chain, and get Nolan BACK on the track just in time to finish the heat race.
Back at the trailer we worked to realign the front end, adjust the engine and chain alignment, and replaced the damaged shock with a spare we had never even used before.
Nolan started the Main feature race in 5th and the fixes worked. The car was FAST again.
He drove strong, made some great passes, and worked his way into 2nd place. On a green-white-checkered restart he was pushing hard for the win. Coming out of turn 4 on the final lap there was contact with the leader while trying to make a move, which resulted in a strike and sent him to the back of the pack.
Racing is full of tough calls and learning moments. While it was disappointing, Nolan kept his head up and fought his way back to finish 5th.
Today wasnโt about the trophy.
It was about perseverance, teamwork, learning, and the incredible racing community that jumps IN to help when things go wrong.
We are so proud of Nolan and all of these young drivers out there giving it their all.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped get Nolan back on the track so he could finish the race, and the amazing crew in the pits.
And as always, we are incredibly grateful for our MVP sponsors who make this possible.
