Cumberland Gap FolkFest

Thank you so much to the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park for showing up and being demonstrators of Appalachian culture at Cumberland Gap FolkFest! We appreciate you all so much!

Last month, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park joined the community for FolkFest in the town of Cumberland Gap.

As part of the festival, park staff and volunteers shared Appalachian skills and history with visitors through demonstrations of spinning, coopering, whitesmithing, and corn husk doll making, along with a presentation exploring the creation of the Declaration of Independence.

Park volunteers Karen, McKenzie, Steve, Caden, and Tom were among those sharing their time, skills, and knowledge throughout the day. We are grateful for these talented volunteers who help us share the stories and traditions connected to Cumberland Gap with visitors at FolkFest and throughout the year!

Back in 2003, past FolkFest Appalachian Supper MC and Heartland Series host Bill Landry teamed up with Dolly Parton for a heck of an April Fool's Day joke. Our own Cumberland Gap Tunnel played a small role in it.
