⚽️🇧🇷⚽️ SOCCER ALERT ⚽️🇧🇷⚽️ This is a big one, folks. Brazil plays their first match of the 2026 World Cup at 3:00 today. If you have plans to visit the shop, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to come through either before three or after six, because during the game Brazilians will be packed into the courtyard like sardines.

I have spoken with the restaurant management and been assured that, if customers for the store arrive during the game, they will be let in (they charge admission because food is served in addition to showing the match). If they refuse to let you in, call the store and I will come get you. Popozão, popozão!

⚽️🇧🇷⚽️ SOCCER ALERT ⚽️🇧🇷⚽️ Another exhibition game for the Brazilian national soccer team at 3:00 today. If you’re thinking of coming by the shop this afternoon, you might want to wait until 5:00 or 5:30. Obrigado!

Heads up! 🇧🇷⚽️ In case you’re planning to come by today, the Brazilian national soccer team has a game at 2:30 this afternoon (my guess is it’ll last until around 4:30). I’ve spoken with the management of the restaurant and been told that, because today is a friendly and not a World Cup match, both entrances will be open and they won’t be charging admission at the door, so there should be no difficulty accessing the store.

📬🇬🇧 Mail time! Today’s arrivals consist of two new additions to the shop’s inventory (Blu-ray editions of Mike Leigh’s “Vera Drake” and BFI’s “Two Films by Yasujirõ Ozu” set) as well as customer requested copies of Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” and David Lynch’s “The Straight Story” on 4K UHD plus Jacques Tournour’s “Circle of Danger,” in addition to 22 restocks.

♻️💿🧐 OOP-ALOOZA 3.0: WAVE 6! A hybrid bundle of French and German discs has been added to 4xblu’s OOP-alooza section, including a pair of discs making their 4xblu debuts.* Among the new offerings:

⭐️ A 1950s Fox drama shot on location in Hong Kong, featuring one of the biggest superstars of classic Hollywood.
⭐️ A collection of films by the first international movie star, a man Charlie Chaplin called the professor of silent comedy and of whom he considered himself a disciple.
⭐️ Another Fox title, a 1960 casino heist with an all-star cast, helmed by a director who established himself by making a string of westerns with Randolph Scott.

* These titles were ordered for research purposes but, by the time they’d been checked out, had gone out of print and new copies were no longer available.

♻️💿🧐 OOP-ALOOZA FRANCE UPDATE! 🇫🇷 Apologies in advance for the long post.

In going through the store’s French holdings, it struck me how fundamentally different 4xblu’s approach to French and German discs is. It’s like apples and oranges.

Practically none of the store’s German discs are films by German filmmakers distributed by German companies; it’s almost entirely films licensed for a short period from other territories (predominantly the U.S.). That’s why, after five years, 80% of 4xblu’s German discs are no longer in print and many have been moved to the OOP-alooza section.

On the other hand, a majority of 4xblu’s French discs are still in print. I suspect this is because nearly all of the store’s French titles are by French directors whose films’ rights are owned by French companies. Because they are usually the rights holders, these labels are able to keep the discs in print for much, much longer.

So, it’s a case of “good news, bad news”: the bad news is that there probably won’t be more than a handful of French discs added to the OOP-alooza section in the coming weeks; the good news is that, once the Supreme Court’s tariff ruling is reflected in the removal of Amazon France’s “Import Charges,” the ordering of French titles can be resumed.

♻️💿🧐 OOP-ALOOZA 3.0: WAVE 5! The final batch of German discs has been added to 4xblu’s OOP-alooza section. Among the titles now on offer:

⭐️ A Cinemascope western by one of 1950s sci-fi films’ biggest directors
⭐️ The indie debut of the director who helmed the highest grossing vampire franchise of the 21st century’s first installment
⭐️ One of the most beloved television comedy series of the last 25 years

♻️💿🧐 OOP-ALOOZA 3.0: WAVE 4! Another five additions have been made to the 4xblu OOP-alooza section. Included in today’s lot:

♻️💿🧐 OOP-ALOOZA 3.0: WAVE 3! 🇩🇪 The 4xblu OOP-alooza section has added five more titles to its ranks, bringing the total currently on offer up to 40 for the first time ever.

Among today’s additions: the first movie to receive an NC-17 rating from the MPAA, the first color feature by a producer and director who would become a pioneer of low budget horror films, and a Best Writing (Original Screenplay) nominee that lost to “Crash” (not the Cronenberg one).
