A tiny little world tucked inside a teacup.

This Saturday, we’ll be gathering around the table to build miniature fairy gardens filled with moss, flowers, tiny treasures, and storybook charm.

Each garden becomes its own little world. A place where fairies might stop for tea, snails might wander the paths, and imagination gets to stretch its legs for an afternoon.

If you’ve been needing a creative escape, a little whimsy, or simply an afternoon to play, we’d love to save a teacup for you.

Today is the last day to reserve your seat:

Recently, I've shared with a few of my workshop participants that I was going to bring back the She's Got A Story series and share my writing journey.

It's official. I'd love to share your story....

(Follow The Storybound Life!)

She’s Got a Story

It’s in her eyes. Written in her laugh lines and the smile that tugs at the corners of her mouth. It’s in the baby she’s rocking, the stretch marks on her belly, and the notes she tucks into college care packages. It’s in the garden she tends, the bread she bakes, and the art she creates. It’s in how she greets a client, strums a guitar, or makes space for others.

She’s got a story.

I am fascinated by women’s journeys and the strength it takes to balance dreams, work, goals, family, self-care, and faith. And now I want to tell the stories.

Over the last two decades, from conferences to churches to around our dining room table to gatherings under shady trees in East Africa, I have been privileged to hear the heart stories of women who change the world. I want to continue sharing them.
All I need is you.

You have a story to tell. (even if you don’t think you do)

I am looking for women who would be willing to let me ask them a few questions and take photos of them while doing something they love. The stories and photos will be featured on my Substack in the coming months as part of the series She’s Got a Story.

I am beginning to sign women up for August. An hour or so to take photos, hang out, a very informal interview, and some housekeeping details. Relaxed and easy. Let me know if you’d be interested.

Do you know about the crumb layer?

While watcing a baking show, years ago, I learned about the crumb layer when icing a cake. A thin layer around stacked cakes that locks down the crumbs so that the outer layers are smooth.

This is my crumb layer stage of painting. Where everything is blocked in and somehow it looks sooo ugly.

Often I want to quit here. It's tough to remember the finished idea...

(there's a metaphor for life somewhere in here, but let's just talk about painting now, k?)

I have to remind myself. This is the crumb layer. It's meant to look ugly and make things look amazing later. Keep going.

While watching a baking show years ago, I learned about the crumb layer when icing a cake. A thin layer around stacked cakes that locks down the crumbs, keeping the outer layers smooth.

“Whimsy is stupid!” A woman announced loudly at the front of my booth at my last market.

I just shook my head as she walked away.

A bit later a little girl (maybe five years old) came in my booth and said, “The fairy climbs up the ladder, hops,” (yes the lil story teller hopped while saying it) “and then she has some tea!”

And in that moment I felt sorry for the woman from earlier.

Somewhere along the way, we decided growing up meant leaving wonder behind.

But whimsy isn’t foolish.

It’s making room for delight.

It’s telling stories about tiny fairies having tea.

It’s painting simply because the colors make you happy.

It’s gathering around a table with other people and creating something for no reason other than joy.

That’s what I hope to offer through my art and creative gatherings.

A place where wonder is welcome.

A place where play is encouraged.

A place where you don’t have to take yourself quite so seriously.

If that sounds like something you need, come play with us.
