One of the best things about skating isn't the skating itself—it's becoming part of the skating family at your local rink.
No matter where a rink is located, there is almost always a "skate family." Especially among the adult skaters. They are welcoming, accepting, approachable, and supportive. It's a community unlike any other.
I can tell you from firsthand experience that growing up, the skating rink was my escape from everything happening in the real world. School. Bullies. Family drama. Work responsibilities. Whatever was weighing on me that day stayed outside those doors.
The moment I walked into the rink, I was home.
It was my safe place. A place where I could let loose, have fun, and spend the next few hours without worry. My friends were always excited to see me, and when we hit that skate floor, we became different people. We let everything go and focused on the music, truckin', jamming, and skating as fast as we could.
And the laughs... oh, the laughs. They were the best part then, and they're still the best part today.
Let's be honest—making friends isn't always easy. In many ways, it's even harder as an adult. But skating creates an instant connection because we all start with something in common. We love to skate.
At Sportsworld Skate Center, Valerie and I have worked hard to create an environment that fosters friendship, love, acceptance, and community. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel welcomed, valued, and included.
Do we think we do it better than anyone else? Maybe we're a little biased.
But when we see friendships being formed, families making memories, and skaters cheering each other on, we know we're building something special.
That's what skating is all about.
That's what Sportsworld is all about.
