Please pardon my mess, but I'm to excited to tidy up before showing off
In the long and complicated story of getting Ravengate Studios back into operation. One of the things that's been on my to do list for close to 10 years and something I've been dreaming of owning for close to 15 years is a good wedging table that's higher than a lot of other tables to accommodate for the limitations I have in mobility in my right wrist.
Well I cast the plaster table top more than a month ago but it's not complete until you can set it up and use it.
We figure that with both plaster and wood all told that this table is close to 500 lbs.
My partner and I got it setting on its feet today. It took several hours, two car jacks, a mess of scrap wood and a lot of creative thinking. But it's up and on its feet and I have a plaster wedging table again for the first time since Anne Arundel Community College.

I WILL BE WHIMSICAL
studio is loading. I'm still months from it being a functioning art studio capable of making work to sell. But right now I'm just making it a space that feeds me creatively and emotionally.

Painting alone in the woods is pretty much exactly what I wanted to do on my birthday. So here's my setup and my fabulously mediocre painting. It feels good to make art and not have to worry about it being perfect. The Joy is in the making.

Progress! Still not sure how I will proceed, but that's most of the fun of this project is making myself think through things. Oil paint is giving me plenty of time to work through my thoughts. I missed these paints.

Very first progress shot. Man it has been ages since I worked with oils! It is Not like riding a bike.

It's been some time since I've posted. But the positive direction that I spoke about in August is actually happening even if it's happening slowly. I'm not really changing my art or even abandoning ceramics. ( I even finished a kilnload of glaze work today!) But I have to admit that I hit some pretty dramatic burnout in 2021. I've been struggling with health and mental health issues since then, but I'm pleased to report that my progress back to being an active artist is ongoing and moving towards the goal of making art that I am proud of and truly representative of who and what I am. In the name of getting back in touch with art as a personal healing tool I'm going waaayyy back to a medium I haven't been active in for 15 years. Oil painting!
This will mainly be a tool for me to explore colors and ideas and redevelop my eye and tastes for how I want to grow and develop as an artist( ceramics, paints or whatever I decided this week I have to try)
If I am finding myself with an affinity for it again I may sell some paintings, or I might not ever paint again. All part of chasing the dopamine and embracing myself and my ideas.
Thanks for sticking around with me so long, I'll keep you all posted.

This is a repost of some text I wrote to go with a video I shared. This is really important to me so I am sharing it over again.
I have as an artist felt very hindered by my ADHD. As the years have gone by and I spread my focus through different mediums, ideas and working modes and felt that I have failed because I can't manage to only do one thing. But I have a shift in ideologies and in my treatments of myself that I hope will change my outlook, and make my quality of life more in line with my mental health needs.
I will be shifting my online presence to reflect more than my ceramics. I am a maker of wide interest and media and I will be sharing all of my creative indevours more openly and on more social media platforms. Some of these will be my expirements, some things will be for sale on my website and others will not. I'll operate on a day by day basis and allow myself to experience my creative desires without limits and without guilt for being so varied.
