A Tradition Returns to Crossville
A long-standing tradition returns to the Cumberland Plateau. Up until 2019, there had been a quilt show held here in Crossville at the Community Complex for our talented community to display their crafts to those who love the art of sewing and creating. It’s been a while, but that is changing as we see the return of this wonderful art display at the 1st Mountain Top Quilt Show, “A Salute to America”, celebrating 250 years of America and the men and women who have served our country! David Mahan, Chairman and lead sponsor of the show guaranteed/promised that all profits from the show will go to our local Military Museum to help fund their needs and to continue to remind us as a community of our heritage by the service of so many people in uniform.
The Show will open Friday, July 10th and will continue through to Saturday, July 11th. It all begins Friday, morning at 9:00am with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a Quilts of Valor presentation to veteran, Dr. William Cranston Moses who is 96 years old and served in the Navy during the Korean War. The show will display over 70 quilts made by many from our region, from the youngest to the oldest and the skillful beginners to the seasoned gurus/experts in the art of quilting!
We invite everyone to join us for those two days at this top-notch event between 9:00am – 4:00pm. The cost is $7 per person. Over 11 vendors will be displaying, promoting and selling their products; local quilting guilds will have silent auction gift baskets, there will be quilts for sale, and door prizes given away every hour promising to be an entertaining two days. There will also be a boutique with quilting and sewing merchandise and the Dorton FCE’s General Store will be open for lunch. Special thanks to all our sponsors, volunteers and supporters who have helped with the return of this traditional display of art to the Cumberland Mountains!
