How to Chose the Right Wedding Photographer for You...

Choosing a wedding photographer can be stressful. There are photos to look at, prices to evaluate, interviews to have. But these are all important parts of your decision, so take your time and use this guide to help you chose the right wedding photographer!

First check their portfolio. If you like what you see and can envision yourself in their photos then the portfolio is a good match. Make sure they show you an entire gallery so you can see the consistency and the true style from a whole wedding day. Are they:

light and airy?
photo-journalistic?
dramatic?

Make sure you LOVE their style and that they are consistent throughout multiple weddings.

The next step is to interview them .This is the critical part. Your personalities have to match and you have to feel comfortable with them- you are going to embark on a very personal relationship. This person is going to be with you for the entire day and perhaps an engagement session and multiple phone calls and planning sessions. You need to jive with them and enjoy their presence. If they make you feel uncomfortable or do not seem professional they are not a good match, no matter how great their portfolio or their price point is.

What Does a "Small Shoot" Mean For Me?

I often have people ask me if they can just have a "short session" with a "few files" at a discounted rate....well, no. And here is why...

โžก๏ธMy overhead cost is the same regardless of how long the session is- insurance, software, equipment, employees, marketing and advertising etc- all that it takes to run a business is the same!
โžก๏ธMy time prepping, planning, communicating and traveling are the same no matter how long the shoot is- and then there is still my time photographing, culling, editing and meeting with the client after to review the images and walk through the products

So even though you only want to spend 20 minutes in front of the camera and only want "one good family photo" it still costs me the same as an hour shoot with 100 deliverable photos.

Why I photograph the way I do is because I don't believe the best photos happen when everyone is perfectly posed. I believe they happen in between.

When your daughter reaches for your hand.
When your fiancรฉ starts laughing unexpectedly.
When your parents look at each other during your vows.

Those little moments are the ones that tell your story.
