dissolving illusions ~

of controlling the narrative in others’ heads,
of my power being in another’s hands,
of my beauty being determined by anyone
other than myself…

my whole life i’ve hidden myself away. behind hair, doors, & the shadows of others. fearful of my own authenticity, femininity, creativity, because of how they’ve been received before.
it’s like i’ve been keeping myself locked away in a house with the doors locked and the curtains drawn. only coming out when it couldn’t be avoided. & the more i’ve stepped out the door, the more i’ve realized it’s safe now because i’ve got me.
so i’ve been peeking through the curtains, then opening a window here and there, and now it’s time to unlock the door and choose to step outside.
it’s uncomfortable, it’s emotional, it’s recovering a sense of safety within myself that i’ve never experienced before. it’s a process & it’s a beautiful one. & i kinda like it out here 🏡
