To brighten up these bleak midwinter days, I would like to share with you a complete collection of our art students’ amazing work from CSA’s December 7 Exhibit. I couldn’t be any prouder of all 11 students. Their skill, creativity, and determination is shown in each of these pieces. Please enjoy them and leave comments for the students that their parents can share with them. Also feel free to share this post with friends and family who could not attend.

They came. They performed. They conquered! Congratulations to our amazing piano and choral students who on December 7th entertained us with a wonderful selection of music. And BRAVO to CSA Principal Charles Wilson and Choir Director La’Keeta Jae for their many talents working with children.

We’re proud of all of our CSA art students, and would like to spotlight each of them through our page.

Let’s start with our exceptionally talented Bailee who revealed to us that she is part of a family line of great American artists!

Her maternal great grandfather is Florian K. Lawton (1921–2011), a realist painter who painted nature, rural landscapes, and scenes from Amish communities in Ohio and Pennsylvania that he loved and admired. Lawton’s painting American Pastime shown below is in the White House permanent collection.

Now let’s pivot to Bailee’s paternal third-great-grand-uncle, William M. Harnett (1848-1892). He was an American painter known for his trompe-l’oeil still lifes of ordinary objects. See below Trophy of the Hunt housed in the Carnegie Museum of Art, The Cincinnati Enquirer housed in the White House permanent collection, and Still Life—Violin and Music (Music and Good Luck) housed in The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

For anyone who knows our Principal, Mr. Charles, you know that he has many stories of his past experiences and adventures in the arts and in life. Only Charles can remember something that happened to him as a toddler…in vivid detail! We decided to capture his stories in this continuing series titled, Mr. Charles Thinks Back…

These are moments of inspiration that made Charles the musician and teacher that he is today. Please share these stories with your children and ask them when they have been inspired by a painting, a song, or a performance. And to our CSA parents and friends, share your own “inspirational moments” as well in the comments section.

Charles took his CSA piano student, Richie, for a second masterclass with concert artist Yeeha Chiu. She is coaching Richie on Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A Major K. 414. Yeeha is Charles’ piano teacher and worked with several of our other adult students at our Adult Piano Camp last summer. (See posts dated July 22, 2024.)
