Student Architect

“Existential Mirror”
“The future narrative of architecture has experienced a major change anticipating the ‘new perspective’. The idea here is to seamlessly merge the public and the private in urban spaces – residences and work spaces are interwoven to reinforce the dynamics of existence with a foundational structure. This view of looking at parts coming together to form a whole and the whole being a part defines the constriction and merger of spaces which would make our cities sustainable and more importantly ‘humane’. The exploration relies on the principles of traditionalism, innovation and pragmatism to look at a more definite tomorrow.”

Yakin Ajay Kinger has a Bachelors of Architecture from Vidyavardhan’s IDEA- Institute for Design Environment and Architecture and is currently pursuing a Masters in Architectural History and Theory at CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India. Yakin received a Special Mention in for his ‘Architectural Haiku.’ He also received the National and Zonal Award at the 2018 Expressions Competition during The Festival of Architecture and Interior Design for his installation, “Bioscope - An Expression of Change.” Yakin also took home 1st Place for the topic “Heritage Insert” during Intensive Design Studio in 2018.

Saad Khan
Student Architect
United States

“I believe that the future of the built environment has the potential to become an empathetic and inclusive scape with consideration for the dwelling of not just humans but organisms that coexist with us. Using sustainable strategies and green roof design it is possible that all throughout cities and suburbias alike we can start to reintroduce organisms into a safer environment whilst creating a source of shade, enclosure, and clean air into dense areas such as Queens New York. Creating green roofs and utilizing / re-programming interstitial space in between buildings may lead us down a healthier and empathetic future.”

As an architecture student, Saad often experiments with different representation styles, however, he has enjoyed a fair share of sketching throughout his career as a student. Saad is constantly thriving to make my drawings unique, clear, and beautiful. He uses drawings and hand models a majority of time to get across a point on to paper and uses that to step into the design process further as a project or proposal is coming together. At the same time, Saad uses sketching as an outlet to express and explore what I feel at any given moment.

Meheroze Al Hassan
Professional Architect
Bangladesh

“And that’s how Architecture and Civilization move forward….
Undoubtedly the whole humanity has been passing an extraordinary time with weird and unfortunate experiences and stories recently due to global pandemic Covid-19, which may possibly last this year. Yet being optimistic person and architect as well, I strongly believe in the spirit of human race’s relentless struggle against all odds both natural & artificial, that always keeps them marching forward, no matter what it takes. My color pencil rendered hand sketch simply describes that human beings (Architecture & Civilization) will definitely reach their beautifully designed environment or destinations finally as winner at any cost.”

Meheroze Al Hasan is the Director of Planning and Design at Credence Housing Limited in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Since receiving his Bachelors of Architecture from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology two decades ago, he has worked as chief architect in leading developer companies in Dhaka. Because of his research and publications, Meheroze has been invited to speak at prestigious conferences and universities both domestically and internationally. In addition, he has served as an architectural juror for many design courses and is a member of both the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) and Nature Study Society of Bangladesh (NSSB).

Anna Rita Emili
Professional Architect
Italy

“With COVID-19, the house has a potential to transform into a multi-functional space, a place where we live, work, carry out research, communicate with the world, into a place of recreation and entertainment, in a public, yet at the same time private area and, therefore, a total space, in which everything can be automated and where everything can be perfect: our bodies, objects and furnishings. The house will be as a refuge for humanity. Perhaps after pandemic the cities will only have underground department stores with long travelators and service lifts. The purchased will be sent directly via the lifts.”

Anna Rita Emili is an award-winning architect, professor, and author based in Rome, Italy. She received her degree in Architecture from the Sapienza University of Rome and founded Altro_Studio in 1998. Since 1996 she has taught at several universities including Roma Tre University and the University of Camerino. A couple of Anna’s many academic monographs include, “Pure and Simple: The Architecture of New Brutalism,” and "Altro_Studio: From the Temporary House to the Living Unit.” She believes that design and art can recapture a society’s ethics and new values, and that different architectural cultures can recover the identity and critical thought lost during the phenomenon of globalization.

Alexandra Mocanu
Student Architect
Romania

“When we think about evolution, spectacular projects in the matter of technology come to us, i consider that in these years we will receive a lesson which will teach us to be more friendly with the environment.
My idea is to present the plan of a district in which the green space surrounds the built space, not reverse. The neighborhood is surrounded by streets that connect with the rest of the city, and inside the district a network of streets that can be traveled by bike, scooter or electric cars.”

Alexandra Mocanu studies architecture at The “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, Romania.

Olga Braico
Professional Architect
Moldova

“As the whole world went through several waves of pandemic rush a lot of offices have been abandoned for many months. Many of people feel uncomfortable working in an open office setting, even when absolute safety measures are taken. However, I do not believe that one’s home should become their office. Work and life boundaries are being erased and a fragile balance is disturbed. A lot of professions, specifically architecture, require both concentration and collaboration time and space. How can people be physically separate but still working together in a transparent collaborative environment?”

Olga Braico is a licensed Architect at HKS in Denver, Colorado. She has a Masters of Architecture from Technical University of Moldova and is a Registered Building Designer member of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). A majority of her work hours are spent in construction document coordination, development, detailing, and construction administration. After many years as a caricature artist, Olga uses sketching as her creative outlet and her vehicle for self-expression. Her 3-year-old daughter and cat constantly remind her that life shouldn’t be taken all too seriously. You should always leave room to play, create, dream, and envision the future.

Shivani Chandra

“We left the world of hugs and handshakes and entered one where human interaction creates more fear than joy. Is this exclusion healthy? If distance is reality, the Future might be SOCIAL WITH DISTANCING. Communication shall increase with grand terraces at varying heights. Conventional stacked balconies being replaced by Alternately Facing Triangular Balconies, one interacting up and below. Dead space betwixt for entertainment, backyard boundaries blurred by see-through grills, thus houses share see-saws for kids to enjoy. Dead facades sheltering outdoor showers and sanitization spots. Dine out and Hotels on wheels. Dropped businesses adapting to urban farming. Living TOGETHER again, happily.”

Shivani Chandra is from India. Architecture has always amazed her, so much so that she chose it as a profession. She is currently in her third year for her Bachelors of Architecture at the University School of Architecture and Planning at Buru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). Enthusiastic orator-writer, imaginative creator, and sporty creature describe Shivani. She is an ardent supporter of green and low embodied energy construction, and has a vision to help create a sustainable and resilient future for cities. She is a firm believer of, "Nature is where you start, and that is what you shall be"

Poojitha Reddy
Student Architect
India

“The human body, and the Earth is 70% water and it's rising. Even if we woke up to disease-free and carbon-neutral world in 2120, there're still island nations destined to sink. The design has given a vision of the future where each neighborhood can adapt to alternate forms of floatation. The only constant in the universe's change. Right now, our world's changing, and we have the power to adapt to change, and to design the future with net-zero energy, obtaining freshwater supply by desalinating water, treating waste efficiently, growing food by hydroponics, aquaponics, aeroponics, and making this neighborhood self-sustainable. Dynamic.”

Throughout her undergraduate studies, Poojitha has opened herself to radical thinking, unbiased leadership qualities, who abides few principles which are both followed ethically, practised, which turned into a lifestyle. From an unthoughtful teenager, she claims that her course of study has changed her inside out and is very observant and reactive with the issues architecture has impacted on lives. She has always come up with the human-centric design and interlinks nature with it organically, with no prior intention. This happens only if someone's truly an admirer of nature, appreciates and empathetic with their context of development. Her goal's simple. Dynamic.

MD Galib Nur Anan
Student Architect
India

“Most of the buildings for the next century have already been built. Post pandemic changes may leave us with better understanding of importance of nature, other people, and their personal public space. To prevent over-crowding, we may have to book appointments before leaving the house or order online and just go to pick-up the order. The waiting queues could be in zig-zag patterns to save space lengthwise and still appreciate social distancing. The aisle inside convenience stores could end up like a basic maze to avoid crossing paths. Technology could bring pod like features to move around freely around.”

MD Galib Nur Anan is a first year architecture student from Chandigarh, India. He is highly motivated to work in the career of architecture. Currently he is trying to work on a lot of different things, simultaneously. Like learning to handle a few different projects at once. Galib loves reading about history and bio architecture.

“Life was picture perfect. I was having it all. Nothing seemed impossible. Then ‘it’ took a toll. Everything got changed. Dare I say; ‘it’ did one good thing!
‘It’ reunited us for good. You made me want to live; you always do. I no more worry of closed stores and vacant streets, social distances and food scarcities. I know you are there holding my hand, for every bittersweet hour. You were indeed, ever in my need.
I am human. I love u all my PLANTS. Here, I thank you for everything you persistently do for me, unconditionally...promise, so will I...”
