A large piece I’ve been working on, approximately 32”x32”. Nocturne scenes are so fascinating to paint, evoking mood and feel through almost imagined colors that you can’t fully capture through a camera at night. Adding a little bit of warmth as a focal point really helped bring this painting through, as lanterns often give you that halo effect of light.

Still coming up with a name for this one, so feel free to drop suggestions below 👎⬇️

This one is up for sale, though it will need a bit of dry time before it can be shipped. $999 and it will be rolled into a tube for safe shipping.

A little alla prima work from today and yesterday. Took a break from the longer form, more layered approach to just get an idea down on canvas. This is inspired by a lot of Edgar Payne’s works using contrasting dark foregrounds up against brighter and/or lighter backgrounds.

Work in progress number 1. A still life featuring a magnolia and various other flowers - set it up in my garage first, did a photoshoot of it, then sketched it out. Underpainting complete now, waiting for it to fully dry (probably a few more days) before the next layer.

Currently on the easel, a still life featuring silver and pomegranates. 18”x24” oil on stretched canvas. This is (generally speaking) the Flemish approach - underpainting in burnt umber, followed by a dead layer using a mix of black and white. Once it’s dry, next week I’ll begin glazing over the colors to complete the process.
