This weekend you can have a full course meal of local history. Saturday, 10am. a history roundtable at the Community Center, 700 E. Gibbs, presented by the Cottage Grove, Or. Historical Society, Continue exploring our colorful past by dropping into the Cottage Grove Museum Saturday or Sunday 1 - 4pm. Bon Appetit!

We took in $130 at the yard sale for Mt. David. The plan is to get the T-shirts reprinted. Thank you everyone who came out and donated to the cause.

In the early to mid 1920's Mt. David was the site for very popular hillside climbing races for the nascent motorcycle. The competitions often drew over 40 entrants and 6,500 spectators creating a bit of a traffic and parking dilemma for Cottage Grove. The track was up the steep eastern face of Mt. David near where Great Days Early Education is today.

Rev. David "Oily" Olson sold the town on the idea a sea of oil was under Mt. David. Before he was done, he collected a lot of local loot but nary a drop of oil bubbled up from their investment.
