he quality of life. With the hiring of Theatre Supervisor Jimbo Ivy to oversee the Majestic, work began to discover what the community wanted the Majestic to be. Local arts and performance groups provide the talent and creative direction; the Majestic provides the business, promotion, and production skills to ensure that those productions are successful, both in a financial and creative sense. Rehearsals are well underway for the Majestic's first thrilling mainstage community theatre show of the season, Miss Holmes!🔍

Costumes aren't nearly finished yet, but nevertheless, quite a few actors can be seen flouncing about the Majestic's Rehearsal Room in a variety of amusingly miss-matched skirts. These are rehearsal skirts, an important tool in a director's arsenal for period shows.✨

Modern actors portraying Victorian women onstage are unlikely to show up to rehearsal wearing a floor-length skirt, but it's important to practice moving around onstage encumbered by a few yards of extra fabric. So they get to wear rehearsal skirts! (The real skirts will end up being much fancier, we promise.)🤗

The talent and dedication of the youth both on and backstage was exemplary, and they put on one heck of a show. If you missed it, don't worry: Shakespeare camp will be back next year with another amazing production. See you next summer!

August 5th was the Majestic’s birthday, but we’re celebrating all month long with tidbits of our early history.🎭

Our most prized historic artefact is undoubtedly the beautifully painted scenic drop that was found hanging in the flyloft when the building was reclaimed as a theatre in the mid-1980s. Recently, theatre staff rolled it out and recorded the signature of the artists: Lermer and McConnell.🎨

After a little digging around, we determined that the drop had most likely been painted and installed in 1928 by W.H. McConnell and M.V. Lermer, two scenic artists in Portland who were briefly in business together as Lermer & McConnell Scenic Studio. It seems to depict the Three Sisters, part of the Cascade Range. It’s in truly stellar condition for a drop that’s almost 100 years old! We fly it in during certain events, so you might be lucky enough to see it in person one of these days!⛰️
