❤️ HUGE MILESTONE FOR SCOTTY’S SKATEPARK IN TAHOE CITY 🛹

The Scotty Lapp Foundation and Scotty Lapp Memorial Skatepark are honored to share that we are one of seven projects selected for this year’s TOT funding, receiving a $400,000 grant toward the construction of Scotty’s Skatepark in Tahoe City. This funding adds to the $600,000 already raised and brings the project significantly closer to reality.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved the projects at its February 3 meeting, allocating $5 million generated from tourism stays. The TOT Advisory Committee, convened by the North Tahoe Community Alliance, recommends projects that support North Lake Tahoe’s economic health, community vitality, and environmental stewardship.

For nearly four years, our community, foundation board, skatepark committee, and entitlement team have worked tirelessly to bring this resource to North Tahoe. We would not be here without the support of community members, local businesses, and partner agencies. The project has received unanimous support from the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Board for the land agreement, the Placer County Board of Supervisors for grant funding, the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board to move the project forward, and local business owners serving on the North Tahoe Community Alliance Board.

Our team is continuing to secure final approvals and move toward construction as quickly as possible, and with this funding, construction is now within reach.

❤️ Someday soon we will all be able to say , and our North Tahoe community will have a place to enjoy for generations to come. We know Scotty would be proud to see how far this vision has come and the impact it will have on our community. ❤️

Sweet new addition to the Scotty Lapp Memorial Skatepark in Corte Madera. Thanks

Did you know the bubble letters in the skatepark logo were made from doodles in Scotty’s sketchbook? His very talented cousin .makes.things created our logos and helped design the website for the Scotty Lapp Foundation. Thanks Sara!

This is what advocating for a local skatepark in Tahoe City looks like. Thanks to our community members for coming out to support a much needed local amenity. So proud of our youth and their commitment to this process, even missing school to come and advocate. ❤️

“More than anyone, young people need to feel like they are recognized and appreciated by their communities. Every skatepark supports hundreds of kids that might otherwise have nowhere to go.”- The Skatepark Project

Don’t miss the first official Skate Session at the brand new Scotty Lapp Memorial Skatepark at Corte Madera Town Park 🛹

Join us on Thursday, February 13th at 4pm for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a few words to celebrate Scotty’s legacy, and of course, an epic skate session in his honor. Let’s skate for Scotty!

No fear….we’re also incredibly excited about the future of the Tahoe City Skatepark—Scotty’s original dream—and can’t wait to see that vision come to life too.

A huge thank you to the Scotty Lapp Foundation board, the Town of Corte Madera, Corte Madera Parks and Rec, California Skateparks, the community of Marin County and everyone who helped make this park a reality. ❤️

YES! Great article NPR. The quote below highlights just a few of the many benefits of having a local skatepark.

“One of the reasons Watkins loves the sport so much, he tells me, is because it’s always been a way to regulate his mental health. He also loves how diverse the culture is — people of different genders, races and ages hang out at the park, making it a safe and inclusive community.” Link to article in bio

TTUSD’s Unanimous Board of Directors APPROVAL!
🛹🛹🛹
At the May 15th TTUSD Board of Education meeting, the TTUSD’s Board of Directors voted (unanimously) to authorize district staff to work on an agreement with Tahoe City Public Utility District to change the use of the existing dog park located at 211 Grove Street, Tahoe City, CA, to a community skate park! We are so excited to continue our goal to develop a public skate park for the North Lake Tahoe communities – an inclusive, accessible, community-minded, and safe space for all.

A humble thanks to the TTUSD board of directors for their time and consideration. We realize this was a big decision, bigger than we realized. Thank you for showing your commitment to the youth of our community. We assure you that each kid, parent, and community member that has poured support into our foundation is celebrating each and every one of you. With your dedication and leadership, we are one HUGE step closer to officially saying, “See You at Scotty’s!”

Also, we can’t thank our amazing community enough for showing up, over and over again. The energy in that room was magic … and it was a night we will NEVER forget.

We are endlessly grateful. Thank you for helping us honor our Scotty.

Love,
The Lapp Family
