This is the last weekend to view the amazing art on display at Texas Trailblazing Women exhibit, at the Atrium Gallery inside the MillHouse. I was honored that my piece, "Wanda's Vision" won one of the Lone Star Awards.

I'll tell more about Wanda in a future post. There are many reasons she was inducted into several rodeo Halls of Fame, including ProRodeo Hall of Fame & Museum of the American Cowboy, National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame, Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame and the@National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. When I was a therapeutic horsemanship instructor, we used many “join up” techniques with both horses and students. Monty Roberts set the standard for gentling horses and the importance of developing a trusting relationship between horse and rider.

Almost missed celebrating the National Day of the American Cowboy. I spied this multigenerational trio in a beautiful photo from the collection of Van Newkirk Herefords. This famous family ranch turns out the most beautiful and strong herd of cattle you’ve ever seen.They run it with precision and passion, bringing up the next generations of family to understand the importance of maintaining their western culture. Give them a follow to see the breathtaking images of their herd on the vast Nebraska plains. This painting was expertly photographed by Sunday Photography to bring out the shadow and light.

I have always considered Pam Minick one of my most influential role models. She is the quintessential rodeo queen, expertly and elegantly representing the Miss Rodeo America program and the sport of rodeo in everything she does. Pam sets the standard for how far professional women in western culture can go. And she isn’t done yet. A well deserved honor!
