Five years ago today, a stranded dolphin was given a second chance 🐬💙
Time flies...

A young male bottlenose dolphin calf was found stranded north of Goose Island State Park. He was rescued and brought to the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue on June 18, 2021, where he began his journey to recovery. The calf, later named Ranger, began his journey to recovery.

In September 2021, the National Marine Fisheries Service deemed Ranger non-releasable due to his young age and began looking for the calf’s forever home. After 9 months of rehabilitation, on March 25th, 2022, Jet ICU carefully transported Ranger to the Dolphin Research Center in the Florida Keys. Ranger has acclimated well to his new home since then and created bonds with his trainers.

Stories like Ranger’s are made possible thanks to YOUR support. When you visit the Texas State Aquarium, you're not just creating memories, you’re helping us create second chances for marine life.
Thank you for being part of Ranger's rescue story. 💙

Celebrate Veterinary Appreciation Day with us today! Let's thank our incredible veterinary team for all they do! 👏 👏 👏 With years of experience and access to cutting-edge technology, our veterinarians and veterinary technicians work tirelessly to care for over 4,000 animals spanning 300 species at the Aquarium. They ensure the well-being of our animal residents through proactive measures like regular check-ups and tests. Our veterinary team is a huge part of how we’re able to provide the best care for all animals here at the Texas State Aquarium, including our dolphins, sea turtles, sharks, and fish.

Additionally, our veterinary team provides specialized care for all rescue patients at the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue, working towards successful returns for our patients back to their natural habitat.💙

Sea Turtle Day Spotlight! 🐢✨

Today, we're recognizing our dedicated Veterinary and Animal Care teams for the incredible work they do to help rehabilitate sea turtles at the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue. With 12 sea turtles currently still under our care from this year's cold-stunning event in January, our dedicated teams monitor these wildlife patients daily to improve their health.

Twice weekly, our veterinary and animal care team conducts weigh-ins and physical exams for every sea turtle patient. Our team monitors and assesses each turtle's progress and provides the individualized care needed to bring each turtle back to a healthy body condition score (BCS) before they can be released back into their home in the Gulf.

During these examinations, veterinarians also assess the healing of injuries sustained before rescue and determine any additional treatment needed to support each turtle's recovery.

Want to be a wildlife advocate too? You can help by sharing our mission, caring for our Texas wildlife and environment, and even enjoying a meal at Raising Cane's! TODAY ONLY from 12–8 p.m., Raising Cane's will donate 15% of net sales to support our wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Every ounce of support from our friends and community helps ensure we're ready to give sea turtles a second chance when they need it most. Last year with your support, our dedicated wildlife rescue team released a juvenile Kemp’s ridley sea turtle after eight months of rehabilitation at the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue. After intensive treatment including antibiotics, antifungals, nebulization therapy, and even a bronchiolar lavage procedure, this Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle made a grand recovery!

Each year, we rescue more animals in need of care and a second chance. Join our mission by bringing your friends and family to Raising Cane’s for a meal that makes a difference for wildlife.
