Needed some downtime for illness today so I set aside customer work for shop maintenance. I just received new plastic guides for my two most used crimpers. (Molex .100 and .062) The old guides were relatively worn after literally thousands of crimps over the last 8 years or so. As the guides wear they will eventually allow the crimps to go sideways and then it crimps wrong and I have to cut it off and crimp another. The guide on the .156 crimper is all metal so no worries there.

Had a great time at the Southern Fried Gaming Expo this weekend in Atlanta. The acrylic pin took the trophy for Best In Show EM.

Next step on the Vanguard overhaul. All of the scoring mechs were jammed up with over greased parts and rusty old springs. Fortunately the reels are metal with real paint so they could be cleaned well with mean green and alcohol. Had to replace the drive cog on the tens reel. Thanks to Steve at PBR who has a bin full and helped me to identify it!

The next step in overhauling the Vanguard is to pull the bottom tray and clean all the mechs and tune the switches. Under the part that scores the balls is 5 rows of 5. Each solenoid tube has a steel rod with a plastic top similar to a chime striker only bigger. Each was resleeved and cleaned and stripped screws were replaced. A few of the switches needed some adjusting. This is what tells the machine where each ball is. I also reglued the "launch all balls" target that has come loose. Eventually it will be repainted and stenciled.
